I'm pointing out Fernando left on good terms and didn't burn his bridges, he won them the WCC twice then left, Lewis is leaving because he isn't winning, the car isn't **** Lewis isn't performing, whose fault is that?

The 2009 car was **** until Nurburgring, that's what happens when you really push the year before for the WDC. 2010 over the season was the 2nd best car but had better reliability than the RB6. This season they are closer to Red Bull than last year and yet he still moans.

How long ago were Whitmarsh, Lewis and Jenson saying the McLaren was obviously faster on race pace than the Red Bull, but just that little bit behind on qualifying pace? Seems to me Lewis got his car and his chances to perform at the last 4 races but ****ed it up and so he blames the car? Sounds just like a golfer blaming his clubs...

Indeed we all know Lewis is one of the best drivers on the grid, anybody can see that. But he still hasn't hit his 2007 form, 2010 was close though, but this year it's looking like vettel's 2009 form, making too many mistakes under pressure.

Anyway Lewis won't move anyway, I think when he sees all the Mclaren have done for him he will stay.

Lewis says he wants Jenson to stay at McLaren.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/motorsport/2011/06/26/lewis-hamilton-don-t-go-jenson-115875-23226984/

LEWIS HAMILTON pleaded with his McLaren bosses to keep Britain’s Grand Prix dream team together and re-sign team-mate Jenson Button.

And ahead of today’s European Grand Prix, he gave the biggest hint yet that he himself will re-sign for the team that has been his home for 13 years – but he issued a clear warning that the decisive factor in contract talks was a winning car.

Button rubbished links with *rivals Ferrari as “twaddle” but his contract at Woking runs out at the end of this season.

Hamilton spoke after he *qualified third and Button sixth in Valencia as Sebastian Vettel thundered to his seventh pole in eight races – dashing hopes new engine mapping rules would wreck Red Bull’s F1 domination.

The worst news for McLaren, though, was that Mark Webber is back on form and starting second, and will prove an extra hurdle.

Despite Button’s superb victory in Montreal putting Hamilton’s performances into sharper relief, the 26-year-old wants his contract extended to 2013.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” said Hamilton. “I’d love to race alongside him for another three years. Jenson has been fantastic. He has been very quick and competitive. His demeanour helps create a comfortable atmosphere in the team. We have more harmony in our team than in any other.”

And last night boss Martin Whitmarsh gave the first indication that is exactly what is about to happen.

He said: “Jenson has been a great member of this team, we are really fortunate with Lewis and Jenson to have two great racing drivers.

“I very much want them to be a part of this team for a long time to come.”

Uncharacteristically reserved after qualifying, Hamilton brushed off his previous claims of “full *attack” and said his goal was the lowest step on the podium.

“I’ve had a couple of very tough races, so third would be absolutely fantastic and anything else would be amazing,” he added.

“When I say I am on maximum attack I mean that in the positive light, not that I am being careless.

“When I am behind someone, if I have been thinking once or twice, I will definitely think a third time before making a manoeuvre.

‘‘That’s a part of growing. It’s important I finish every race.

“As concerns the future, the most important factor is a better car. I really want to win more championships.”

That is obviously because he knows anyone who is better than Button who is left without contract for next year (Rosberg, Kubica [hopefully he will be back] and maybe some slower teamed people) would be putting him under even more pressure. Button may be good, but just not great. :)

No one wants to face Lewis. He will blow anyone away.

I think Button is better than Rosberg and Kubica, both have not been tested at the highest level in terms of car, competitors and team mates; Button has and he has stacked up to them.

I just think he is better than Button.
Maybe if they all had perfect cars then Button would be better but right now, except maybe in Canada/Monaco, he would be doing better than Button. We wont know yet. [This is just opionion]

Well Lewis rates Nico as one of his biggest rivals in F1 so some truth has to come from it. Nico could well be the unsung "hero" of F1 and take it to Lewis. Jenson didn't seem happy Nico coming into Brawn to be his teammate.

This is good - nice to see opinions without us getting abusive. Where would we be if everybody agreed? Still very sad about Kubica, and Vettel flying away.
Lets hope for better to come.

So Jenson ran away from Rosberg and straight into Hamilton... Rosberg is a good driver. He might be the 5th best on the grid at the moment, but he has been flattered by poor teammates.

Interesting thread, I still think Button could turn up for Ferrari next year but that probably puts me in a minority of one on here! If Massa gets pushed out then who knows, a straight swap could be on the cards, Hammy knows he will have the measure of Massa so wouldn't object to that. Hope my new crystal ball isn't malfunctioning with these predictions!

It's how you play it smart, maybe get beat by another world champion who is dibbed far beyond your reach. Or maybe get beat by an unknown "talent" making you look like a paper champion since nobody rated him, just like the schumacher fans did.

didn't he say roughly the same about kovelinen? Rosberg just doesn't seem to have 'it', fast on an empty track, and can beat his has-been team-mate most of the time, but he's never really 'ooh'ed me. Not in same league as Kubica, who isn't in the same league as the Alonso/Hamilton/Vettel triumvirate

I believe Hamilton would take a paycut to get his hands on a championship winning car, but whether Red Bull will sign him is debatable.

Well Vettel has gone one step further than Hamilton and said he would pay to drive the Red Bull.
