I don't particularly think either driver did a lot wrong. Part of being a successful driver is to gain your position in the pecking order and a reputation that others take notice of. Max has been trying to impose himself as someone who won't back down and it has generally worked as even Hamlton has backed out a few times playing the percentages. Lewis needed to show that he wouldn't always back down to make Max think twice in future. He got lucky this time in that he was still able to go on and win the Grand Prix, but it was something that he needed to do even if it resulted in them both losing out.

Lewis has always been extremely talented and knows how to win even when he doesn't have the best car. He also has the experience now to know when to pick his battles. Max is also extremely talented but isn't as streetwise as Lewis. All makes for a cracking season.

Totally agree with last two posts. Neither driver at fault really as they both had valid reasons for doing what they did and they both had the opportunity and perhaps should have done things slightly differently. Very easy to say with hindsight and the benefits of slow mo replays from every conceivable possible angle, not as easy to apply it at 200mph despite the lightening reflexes these guys possess!

Max had plenty space round the outside and could have and probably would have had plenty opportunity to challenge for the lead later in the lap/race. I reckon he’ll secretly be kicking himself despite his claims that Lewis was reckless and dangerous. Not as much as Hamilton probably was after flicking his magic brake switch in Baku (iirc) after Max’s tyre went pop. It will certainly make for more interesting racing for the remainder of the season….it remains to be seen how much of Max’s car/PU can be salvaged for Hungary or whether he has a grid penalty coming…hell of a rebuilding job that like.

I used to love the old days when they had a shunt and used to run back to the pits to jump in the spare car (T car as they used to call it)….hardly any safety cars back then as well….just pure turbo powered wheel to wheel racing flat out without having to worry about spending caps, saving fuel, tyres or engines! Nee wonder Prost and Senna had so many offs!
