Good to see that other than the Ron question that it all seems rather amicable and it's not to do with some major bust up. Quite happy to see that.

I know that it is likely (perhaps inevitable?) that without evidence to the contrary, public opinion will take its own course. Nonetheless, I'm a little surprised at so many who appear to have jumped to conclusions about various relationships at McLaren; particularly between Hamilton, Whitmarsh and Dennis.

All I would like to add to this discussion is that Martin Whitmarsh is a very nice, 'human' bloke; and that Ron Dennis is a god of exacting perfection who finds the frailty of complicated, personalised, human imperfection rather more difficult. Indeed, if everyone was like RD, the world would be a perfect place (from his perspective).
I like Martin Whitmarsh. I admire Ron Dennis. What Lewis Hamilton has done is to choose his own path; and whether wise or otherwise, this is surely something RD will admire – even if he may hold personal regrets…

I repeat: I
like Martin Whitmarsh. I admire Ron Dennis.
… And it just might be the case that Hamilton perceives Ross Brawn as sitting somewhere between the two.

I think some of the Ron questions come from some of the hardball quotes that he has made during the process, Cosi. The suspected fallout between Hamilton & Whitmarsh has mostly been speculation though... which can hopefully be put to bed now.

No mention of Button. That's who I blame and, let's face it, someone must be to blame <devil>

Maybe Ron is doing the correct thing and trying make Lewis not actually regret making his own choice in leaving McLaren? On a personal level they have always been fine, but business is business etc

If he acts like a "twat" around the media and at Lewis himself, he will surely want to prove him wrong and getting the public off his back about money? You don't just spend 13 years of your life with somebody and never have any sense of affection with one another...

Though I'm not Ron!

Schumacher has just announced his retirement from F1. I'll wait for Eternal to do the thread, but thought it worth mentioning.

Its a 100% Buttons fault. With Buttons performance since coming to the team (although erractic as of late) and the contrcat extension he signed last Summer, Lewis new he was disadvanatged compared to his main competition. Whilst no one can pretend that over the course of the next 2 or 3 years, Lewis wouldn't beat Jenson at Mclaren, the fact is that Jenson would most likely cost Lewis the title year after year!

His decession was about controlling his own destiny moving forward - win or lose, I cant blame him for that decision! I just find it ironic that when Jenson went into the "Lions Den" in 2010 I dont thnink anyone would have thought that he would have been a key player (through form/ability) in Lewis's decession to leave for another team?

wouldnt it be a kick in the balls if Button wins in 2013 and also delivers Mclarens first championship since 1998?

It certainly would... but that would need McLaren to get their poop in a pile for once. :)

I thought this was a swipe at Mclaren and covering the above!

"The car that I'm in right now is a car that I've developed. Next year will be an evolution of the car that I've helped develop [at McLaren] and that will be a championship contender.

you'd hope so, but I'm not convinced that this wasn't Simon Fuller looking after himself

There can be little doubt Fuller is a tool; but a machine with a loose nut might need a spanner in the works…

This is a huge risk for Lewis if he ever wants to win a title again.

Mercedez really must have something up their sleeve in terms of performance.

I don't buy he went their just for the money. Lewis likes winning to nurse his ego - and if Mercedez cannot provide it i'll expect he'll move on again.

Will be weird watching him not punch at the top order with McLaren.
