Gutierrez really isn't that good. But he brings sponsorship from Carlos Slim, the world's richest man, who also backs Sergio Perez.

That would be an interesting move. He'd replace Petrov I'm assuming, and it'd be interesting to see how well he would do in one of the bottom teams. Still waiting for them to make another step up and start challenging some midfield teams, although its really difficult to catch up to the already established teams.

Gutiérrez looks all right in the lower series but nothing more. He potentially has the talent to have F1 pace but in Sauber you need patience more than out and out speed.

    MONEY MONEY MONEY!

But yea, I honestly was aware of the sponsorship he brings, which is of course going to play a huge part. I just don't have much of a clue on how good he actually is, but if you say he is just all right then I'll trust your opinion on this one. I guess sometimes money for the team is more important than having the most talented drivers you can possibly have. In which case I would say, fine, bring Gutierrez in as a straight replacement for Perez, and keep Kobayashi, who IMO is better than Alguersuari.

Bit late by myself but welcome to the forum :)
I think Kovi and Kobay would make a good pair in Caterham, and Kobay would be allowed to race properly again. Whether or not Caterham can step up is another matter, Marussia is starting to look like it can take the fight to Caterham as well which only complicates things.

I like this idea. A lot. Although Alonso and Kobayashi would basically be my dream team so I'm a bit biased <laugh>

Alguersuari already has a contract to drive somewhere next season. He said the team were point scorers, so using dedeuctive reasoning, Sauber is the logical job (though i was convinced he was going to FI)

Well if Hulk does go to Ferrari then there is a FI seat for either Kobay or Algi ;)

Thanks! Also, The North West as in Pacific Northwest? I only ask because I have friends from Seattle, plus fellow American, woo!

Fair point on Marussia, they seem to be getting their act together a bit in recent races. I do think that Kobayashi would get a fair chance to race at Caterham, and Kovi is a good driver and team player, so that would probably work out well as a pairing.

Ferrari will re-sign Massa, with a view to taking Vettel on in 2014. Thats what the Italians think anyway.

I've been checking regularly with BBC, F1.com and Autosport and hadn't seen anything about Alguersuari having a contract set for next year. Guess I need to expand the sources I check (or follow him on twitter if he's got one). Based upon that reasoning though its fair to say that it is probably Sauber, in which case, Kobay is probably gonna be without a drive next year

That's what I think will happen as well, and seems to make the most sense given everything that has happened thus far.

Sorry about that. Kind of got off topic there didn't it? Back to the topic at hand!

So unless its been talked about already, is there anyone here who is upset with Hamilton's move away from McLaren? I was just reading this article on Autosport http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/102969 where Damon Hill says that Hamilton was basically a caged bird at McLaren. Does anyone share this view?

off topic talk often leads to the creation of interesting threads so its always good <laugh>

I think if anything Hamilton's move is good for him on a personal level. We may never know the politics at McLaren but Whitmarsh and Hamilton seemed to have an uneasy alliance. A fresh start for him at a team that hopefully can fulfil its potential.

I'd rather see Kobay replace Webber at RBR, I think Vettel and Kobay would be an awesome pairing.

While Damon thinks of comparing birds and Lewis I just think of this at the time...
