Apologies if I'm being stupid... but what's meant by "identity" and "data-led" here?

I would read 'identity' to mean appointing someone who fits the 'Swansea way' of playing football.

So appointing Duff was a move away from that and appointing him purely on the results he had achieved at his previous clubs without any clear view as to whether that would be successful at Swansea.

“Caretaker head coach Alan Sheehan says he and his players are determined to put in a performance to make Swansea City’s supporters proud and end a difficult week on a positive note at Rotherham United on Saturday.

Sheehan is set to lead the Swans at the AESSEAL New York Stadium this weekend, following Michael Duff’s departure.

The Irishman acknowledged it has been a tough period with Duff and Martin Paterson leaving the Swans, and that no-one is happy with the club’s current league position.

But he insists staff and players are fully focused on delivering for everyone connected with the club, as he spoke of the privilege of being asked to take the team in the short term.

“I have been given the privilege to be in charge of this club and I understand the responsibility that comes with it,” he said.

“We want to put out a good Swansea team that the fans can be proud of on Saturday.

“We’ve been working on how we can hurt the opposition. It’s about how we can get the best from the players we have in the building.

“In moments we have seen it, but hopefully we can bring that on Saturday.

“But it’s never going to be about me or anyone else, it’s about the club, it’s about Swansea City and what it means to represent this club.

“I know the people who work here and are around the place. I have had people wishing me good luck and you can’t describe that feeling.

“As I say, it’s a privilege to be in this position for now, and I hope in this short period we can produce a performance and a result on the weekend.”

Sheehan joined the Swans as assistant head coach in the summer. The former midfielder had a long playing career taking in over 400 league appearances, and revealed there was a time when he was close to moving to SA1 as a player.

“There was interest, around 2007 or 2008 when Roberto Martinez, Graeme Jones and Kevin Reeves were here. I ended up at Leeds, Swansea got promoted and Leeds lost the play-off final, so I obviously made the wrong decision!” he said.

“I have followed this club for a long time, since then. I liked the players who were here like Leon Britton and Ferrie Bodde. I am aware of the history of Swansea City, I always had admiration for the club but, being here now, I know it is a special place.”

He already sounds more in touch than Duff ever did <cheers>

I wish they would lose the phrase 'in the building'. Duff said it all the time.

....and 'he's back on the grass' is another one. <steam>

    To be honest, no idea.

I can only assume that he is an advocate of possession based football “a la Swansea Way”

Could be the Yanks wait a while to see if they can save money by having him.

Additionally, he didn’t go with Duff - doesn’t he have ties to Watson?

If the new guy doesn't bring some quality players with him then were just a short term spring board or sacking machine again ?

Best we can hope for, if he's any good, is one or two seasons. Rinse, repeat.

Interesting! Not long then until I can get really hyped and enthusiastic.... for a few games, then quietly optimistic.... a few games more, then disillusioned... a few games more, sack the useless git! :emoticon-0112-wonde
