This is it, MikeT. We need to go with at least an experienced spine to the team. I could not stomach another defeat to a non-league side.
Our wildly differing attitudes to this fixture could throw up literally thousands of possible player permutations. Clearly we dont have a clue as to what CP's approach will be, so it's a little bit of interest for us after many weeks of "no change" or minimal change. Whatever team we field, we will win, and win comfortably enough. There is NO chance of another "Victoria" though it might not be much a spectacle. Maybe a boring 0-3?
I'll be able to tell you later (after Croydon Club game) if any 'Yoof' were missing without explanation
Evening Addicks! Here's a rare prediction from me - we are going to beat Huddersfield at The Valley. I was invited to Swindon today and was very happy I accepted. Yes, I know it was only the Cup. Yes, I know it wasn't a full side. Yes, I know they've got other things on their minds. They were absolutely stuffed out of sight. Ponderous, short of ideas, hopeless under pressure, always second to the ball and alarmingly unable to cash in on their early goal. Terrible crowd - shame on the locals for not packing the ground for this effortless display. We can do it. We can win. We are going up.
I saw Huddersfield's early goal on SkySports earlier and thought it would be the same old story, was extremely surprised to see it go 2-1 (especially as I hadnt realised Swindon had equalised). Anyway after our last three Saturday performances of scoring 4 Goals I'm pretty confident myself i.e. we can shut out opponents and score plenty with Huddersfield's sole strength being able to defend (as per their lucky win @ the Valley last season). What was Paulo's Swindon like Tewkes, would you say he was a good Manager... better than Powell perhaps on how his team play the game or have we the right man out of the two Legends?
I'd say the team's still a work in progress, A4L but they were infinitely better than when I saw them at Cheltenham earlier in the season. They're pretty fluent passers, but one of their great strengths is the amount of players willing to have a go from distance. Paulo is... YES! LAMPARD!! GREAT HEADER BY DARREN!!! ...Paulo, animated, intense, always close to the action and you get the impression that the team are responding to him and taking their lead from his enthusiasm. IMO, they've got what it takes to go up.
I would've preferred for them to get a lucky stuttering draw tbh. Just realised how bad it is to get to Halifax for tomorrow... so it'll be a train to Leeds tonight if I am going, not so sure any more
Right there will not be any of our Yoof on the bench - U18 team this morning Phillips Cousins, Gomez, Lennon, Fox Silva, Holmes, Poyet, Harriott Gerard, Azeez Scores Addicks U18's 2 Croydon Club U18's 2 Addicks U16's 1 Croydon Club U16's 1 We went 2-0 up after about 30mins (Azeez & Gerard) and there was only one team in it, about 5 mins before half time the Croydon Club pulled it back to 2-1 (a midfielder running at our defence and after a few attempted tackles the ball breaks to one of their players and he has an easy chance for 2-1) the second half was quite even but on about 60 mins the ref gives them a dubious pen (once again midfielder running at defence) and 2-2. Both teams had chances after that so a draw was perhaps the correct result Who was there, - King Lennie (obviously wearing a jacket that just didn't seem right on him), Reg and the Italian Stallion were there but no other management, and the lad from QPR Hogan Eph?????am (he confirmed to me that he has signed on loan) I overheard something else but can't post that on ear Oh and a youth scout from the Whammies plus a scout from a Prem Club but not sure who? The Charlton people seemed a bit pissed off about this but there was nothing they could do
Should of said ia, could of put you up! I have just rolled out of bed, time for a coffee then cab to the station! Should be doing some sort of comments from the game on twitter if anyone interested.
NON LEAGUE PAPER CUP TEST IS A MATCH OF MEMORIES -ASPIN Neil Aspin the former leeds united defender now in charge of Halifax sends his men out against charlton athletic.Bradley wright phillips 13 goal leading goalscorer or how about jonnie jackson the former tottenham left sider who has seven to his name so far this season. Not a chance the 2 names in the familar bald head of aspin 30 years since last played for leeds united debut as a 16 year old its a beautiful pitch at the shay and that could work against us with charlton but you got a groundsman whos pride and joy it is aspin recalls the play off final at st andrews says it was 1-1 draw at the time on agg it was a dissapointing spell for leeds both professionally and financially ,ive no particular dislike for charlton id would have liked get revenge for the play off final at best .The game should get in £92,000in prize money and fees for tv
