Malwarebytes can be run as a sort of AV, but it's better at finding stuff that other AV software bypasses. Norton is ****. As I said before, if you install and run both of those programs and they come back with no viruses your PC is fine and you can relax. Ron I know what I'm talking about ffs...
Norton has traditionally been slated for about 2 decades. Back then, quite rightly so - processor & memory hogging crap.
It's like Herpes, almost impossible to clear out of your system unless you know what you are doing. ****ing nightmare of a programme.
I'm sure you do Toby. I'm just a little reluctant to run another antivirus on top of the Norton De Lux I currently have. Norton has been slated for decades (mainly as a resource gobbler) but it is one of the most advanced products out there (see Tech Advisor Review http://www.techadvisor.co.uk/test-c...2017-free-paid-antivirus-reviews-3651652/#toc). However, I think the problem may lie with the fact that I use Microsoft Edge (as I like the "Add to Favs /Reading List" feature) which apparently causes problems for antivirus checkers because of its lack of extensions. I think I'll have a look at some forums to see what they say. I am grateful for your assistance Toby and I might end up following you suggestion

Another top tip if you suspect the hard disk or the file system is giving you problems is... Open a command prompt and enter the command format /FS:NTFS c: to restore your disk to pristine condition Happy daze.
