My issue with all this is this; are we targeting players because they are £7m or because we think they are the perfect fit for our team?

I can see us drawing the line if Spurs had offered silly money but £8m? If we aren't going to enter into bidding wars then he can't be seen as so important to our plans so why the hell are we going for him in the first place.

Fed up going for players just to fill our squad...either we get them & they add little or we lose out & look like the ugly bird at the dance.

I never wanted Joe Cole and I wish you guys had offered more than us <ok>

Fair points on the club comparisons too <ok>

I wasn't questioning the players motives, that is up to the individuals. I am saying if we have offered what we think he is worth then we shouldn't be upping it because someone else is offering more unless the manager thinks that player will make the big difference and really REALLY wants him.

Edit: until a deal is announced (preferably by Dave Whelan <whistle> then I will ignore most media rumours etc. It could just be his agent trying to get him a better deal <ok>

Haha, we never wanted Cole either. 'Arry was all on his own with that one :D

Yeah, it's hard to tell what's going on, as there's so much misinformation these days but it's always fun to speculate on these things during the club football drought. Well it's better than watching England, atleast. Given that you were competing with Swansea, I'd be surprised if you've offered Sigurdsson what you think he's worth as it's unlikely you'd have needed too. I guess it all now depends on how badly you wanted him in the first place and whether it's already too late. Even if you would have been willing up your offer, there's always the chance that you don't see him being worth getting into a bidding war over.

We are an impatient lot. We don't know what's been going on behind the scenes, so talk of "dragging our heels" is premature.
If anything we may have been guilty of complacency, thinking the BR factor was enough to get him. If we lose him because of that, then we've learned a lesson, nothing more. He's a decent player but it's not like we've thrown away the chance of getting Messi for a bag of sweets.

Oh well it's all paper talk, Rodgers has not said a word, so perhaps he has decided he is not what he wants. I mean, it's not as if we can't afford him. Perhaps we are in the market for a higher caliber of player.

According to lfc.TV forum which is where us paying members chat it is common knowledge that we have to sell first to buy. There is no big budget so get that out your head now.

All I know is that we should have loads of material for that documentary coming out in the fall <laugh>

<ok>

No way a bunch of fans on a forum know the budget, even if it is on the official site. <laugh>

There are people on there seldom wrong. I would think that's because they
re based in Liverpool and have more reliable sources. Time will tell but judging from things so far they seem to be right.

So because we might miss out on ONE player that means they must be right?

I thought the guys with the money were based in Boston not Liverpool??

Like Joe Cole, who you chucked money at? Lets face it, money matters to all players so there's no point deriding others for chasing money when there's players in every team that have transferred for a bigger wage.

Given the games Sigurdsson played against Liverpool and Spurs, it's not unreasonable that he considers us a better option anyway. He might have faith in your manager but looking at the squad it's still a long way off being the kind of side Rodgers had at Swansea. Maybe if you'd already signed 3 or 4 exciting new players and got rid of players like Adam, Downing, etc then you'd be more appealing.

Either grow up Yid or **** off - preferably both at the same time

<ok>

Personally I am tired of having to put up with **** banter from fans of small clubs, the sooner we get back to where we belong the better.

United fans are the only real set of fans in the top 6 you can have some real good banter with <ok>

The rest just go off crying <laugh>
