I read the same thing. I think this a quite significant, especially considering he'd worked with Brendan Rodgers at Swansea.

I am growing in excitement about this signing. I remember him being very effective against us with Swansea last season.

I know YouTube isn't the best at representing a player, but this pre-Swansea video is a good one. Note his proficiency and confidence with set pieces....

You can see the same things on Bale and VDV. All goes when they pull on a Spurs shirt.

    Bitter Much?

    1609: FOOTBALL
Brendan Rodgers has reflected on missing out on Gylfi Sigurdsson's signature at Liverpool. "Liverpool would have provided Gylfi with a wonderful opportunity to perform with a manager that he knows and at a club which is a real footballing institution.

"But he's decided to go to Tottenham, for whatever reason. I wish him the best, he's a good kid and there's no ill feeling. We've got other targets and we'll move on."

The "for whatever reason" bit - well we're a more stable club, a financially better off club and in recent years a more successful club than Liverpoor - of, we don't have a reputation for condoning racists either.

Bit of a slap in the face for Roy Rodgers, he must have thought he had his man. Cant blame Siggurrdsson for choosing us over Liverpoo, we are a far more attractive proposition these days.

Cant we flog them Jenas as an alternative lol

Mikill goðr! Great to be able pull for someone from one of my favorite countries as well. (I'm an Edda/Saga buff)

Can anyone point me to a collection of Spurs songs? I'm seeing Spurs for the first time against Liverpool in Baltimore 7/28.

Anyone care to make one up regarding Sigurdsson? That does seem like an obvious topic...

Have a look on Youtube, "oh when the Spurs" is a must but I wouldn't worry about "'Arry Redknapp's Blue and White Army" or "Super Pav" :p

    I don't believe that report, I'm afraid.
Rodgers explicitly stated that Liverpool didn't offer him anything more than Swansea did.

His "for whatever reason" hints that he believes Spurs offered more, but I don't even think that he knows that for a fact.
I doubt that some random Welsh journalist that got at least part of his story wrong has any inside information.

    Hoffenheim: £25k
    Liverpool: £27.5k
    Swansea: £30k

Even if you ignore the presumption we offered double what Liverpool did, the fact they were offering less wages than Swansea - and Rodgers must have known what wages Swansea were offering Sigurdsson, as he was still there when the Swansea were reaching an agreement - does make it look like something is amiss at Anfield.

At least until they get Joe Cole and Aquilani off their wage bill.

Im glad he has gone to spurs, better for him to go to a team already playing great football than to be part of a project that may or may not work at Liverpool, also to have everyone scream at you to pass the ball to gerrard all the time wouldnt be gylfi's thing!

There are rumours down our end that rodgers has had certain promises broken by the yanks already, and the job is different to what he was sold, im guessing that working within a tight financial budget is one of the goal posts that has been moved! there is no way on earth Swansea should be anywhere near Liverpool on wages offered for this player, Brenden is very good at saying the right thing and defusing questionable situations, the fact he said he wasnt prepared to offer more tells me the owners wouldnt let him offer more!!

i also get the feeling Gylfi didnt want to be part of a scenario that he was part of at hoffenheim, that is the manager going after a short while and then ending up in the wilderness, at least if that was to happen at Spurs he has an extra 20k a week to make his suffering worth while!! Spurs are clearly well ahead of Liverpool at the moment and if you look at which club is currently the best one to join its Spurs <ok>

I wish Gylfi all the best, he is a great prospect at 22yrs old and fits the Spurs way of playing, any player who goes to Liverpool will have to contend with the shadow of gerrard hovering over them whenever they take a touch of the ball, at spurs this wont happen. If it dont work out at Spurs early on then we will see him on loan at Swansea in January!! win win all round but Laudrup is getting us De Guzmen from Villareal so looks like we have moved on from him already

    Good luck Spurs :)

When you two big boys have stopped fighting, this little Swansea fan, would just like to get a word in edge ways! Thank goodness this Siggy transfer is over, what a farce it has been, must be one for the record books. I am glad he has gone to the better footballing side, and disappointed we have lost him, due to Rodgers upping sticks, I'm sure he will prosper at Spurs, and wish him all the best, good player, you can continue fighting now.............. <cheers>

Cheers for the input, Swans fans.
Thanks for giving Caulker his opportunity last season, too.

Not sure why people are discounting the possibility that Sigurdsson merely looked at the competition at Liverpool at thought better of it.
Gerrard favours his preferred role, as do Aquilani and Cole in the short term, plus the likes of Henderson, Shelvey and Pacheco, in the long term.
Ok, he's got to try and displace van der Vaart at Spurs, but he's got to be our next choice in that role and he'll definitely get starts.
