Graham & Sig is much like Scotland & Bodde was the last season under Martinez ... all had a half a season of scoring then the other took over , it happens for various reasons . Bodde went down , Scotland picked it up .... Sig came in half way , on fire , Graham fell off .
I would really like to see Sinclair have a half in Dannys roll i dont know why but i think it would spark him and his ego to life and as he always cuts inside on the wing if the goal was infront of him more than at an angle i think with his trickery he could score a hat full ! Worth a try ??
Wether you like it or not but Dai has some valid points. Since we got to 39 points and virtual safety Brendan and some of the players seem to be believing in all this hype. They think they're better than they are and it shows. We should not have lost the last three games. Everton are a solid team that's all and Moyes got it spot on, Spurs I can forgive as they are better end of but 77% possession against Newcastle and not winning shows all is not right. Stop believing they're better than they are, some hard graft and back to basics is what's needed now. I'd love us to sign Sig permanently but I think the chances are slim now.
It could be worth a go but i think we would still be in the situation where there isnt enough supply to the front player, much more would bounce back if sinclair or routledge was up top, at least with DG and Moore it sticks (sometimes)
Fair views DILLIGAF, im not sure myself but i know the hype is affecting the heads of some induviduals down there !! i was also told some news about Bodde, completely finished with us and the words were "thank god, best thing to happen to us for ages, nothing but problems with him "
totally agree with Dai, swansea are NOT barcelona, pass around all they want but barcalona CAN SCORE, BR has had a good run but he makes wierd decisions aka Dobbie who i would have over Moore, Graham et al anytime
I can assure you norway that i never joke when it comes to my own club that i have supported for decades and i only go what i see and hear what others are saying and to me its disappointing when you hear top pundits who were praising us just a short time ago are now concerned we are going overboard with our passing and sod all trying to score and win games, i am serious when it comes to the swans and i agree with many that we have been turned into a crowd pleaser giving exhibition matches on how to keep the ball and not how to win anymore. i want us to get back to where we were a few months ago and that was a team who would not lie down for anyone and give a good account of ourselves and we can honestly say we played well......passing the ball is our game and we are very good at it but we are now passing needlessly where we should be going for goal......norway mate i never joke about the swans ever .....
Dai, if I disagree with you then you know I tell you but on this occassion I'm in complete agreement. Norway, the problems started after the Fulham game. There were only 2 games that day and we got about 1/2 an hour on MOTD. They went overboard with the hype about the passing game and how we had given Fulham a footballing lesson. Since then we've played like a team that's safe and ready to go on holiday. Our next four games are against teams that will fight for everything and we better be up for it or else. Personally I'd like to Sinclair take the shackles off and have a real go at the fullbacks and I'd like to see Buck try some different formations as we will need a plan B next season. Why not give 4-4-2 or even 3-5-2 a go in some games.
this is how a regular writter for the toon saw the game...so why cant a few on here see it as well. he is spot on with his take on how we are playing now.... The game started as it was to go on, Newcastle holding firm while Swansea had possession, a lot of possession, but no real threat. The first moment of real importance in the game was actually the first goal, five minutes had past when Gutierrez picked up the ball on the right hand side, he then found Yohan Cabaye who played a magnificent pass through to our man in form, Papiss Cisse. A lot of work was still to be done, but it was done with ease as Cisse just opened up his body and slotted past the on coming Michel Vorm. 0-1. This was disaster for Swansea, as the early goal ripped their game plan of wearing us down by keeping the ball and picking us off. They now had to be more direct in order to get back on level terms, from that moment on the game was being played right into Newcastle’s hands. Credit to Brendon Rodgers though, as I say, you can see why they are where they are, if that style of football is played right, it is fool proof. Keep the ball until the other team tires, so when they do eventually lose it, they have all the energy preserved in order to get it back, all Swansea need is a real finisher, and that is why it was such a surprise to see Geordie boy Danny Graham on the bench! Swansea were always dangerous though, but much like Norwich and Liverpool, they didn’t create much real danger to Tim Krul’s goal. Potent threats however, were Nathan Dyer, playing on the right side of an attacking three and Gyfi Sigurdsson, a midfielder with a superb shot and an eye for goal, a dangerous combination. This current Newcastle team are fast becoming the most professional side we’ve had in a very long time, this was evident yet again as we saw out a dangerous first half, and went into the break losing 82-18% on possession but winning 1-0 on goals, and that suited us just fine Anyway, now that the second was in, Swansea had nothing left from where I was sitting. As I said, if Swansea play that way and get it right it is unplayable, but unlike Arsenal and even Barcelona, they don’t have the firepower to get themselves back into games once going a couple of goals behind, especially against a team as confident as Newcastle. We saw the game out with few problems, except yet another knock, this time for Cabaye, and with Bolton only two days away, he must surely be doubtful. Looking at the positives though, Newcastle are looking to slip under the radar and into the Champions League, is it possible?
I'm going to have my two peneth worth regarding Fridays game. I do feel that Newcastle set up not to lose, defend deep and hit us on the break. They have the players to do that and really hurt you in Ba & Cisse, before the game my main worry was these two lads and Cisse's scoring for fun and he proved it, how many real chances did he have 3 ish and scored two of them. What didn't help us was conceding so early on, as if this would have gone into the second half 0-0 then holes would have opened up and we MAY have exploited them. I did think Vorm could have done better with the first goal, thought he should have saved it, or am I a little harsh on him? Our defence mmmmm, lot's of criticism was directed at Gary Monk after his Spurs display. I was disappointed in the way we let Cisse have a free run through on goal where Ash & Caulker parts quicker than the red sea. Also I have another bit of beef with Ash why does he love to wrestle players conceding a free kick within easy free kick range. Pus what's with the second goal that he actually moves away from Cisse then decides t close him down which is too late. The other thing is when Ash and Caulker get the ball and are allowed to attack the space in midfield they then both stop and play the ball backwards, therefore losing the attacking impetus, did it a lot in the first half but fair play to Caulker he did carry it forward more and get into like Rangel and Allen he then carried on as the extra man. Taylor is very good going forward, and has a bit of pace about him and this should be utilised. Rangel not quite the same player as Taylor but great attacking but can be found out with his defending, and a position I feel needs to be looked at in the close season. Young Scotty to me has lost his way, not sure what it is but last year he loved to run at defenders and take them on, but he just looks to me a player who's confidence is VERY low. Dyer for me is our best winger, but he seams to have lost his zip, like Sinclair not taking on the defenders at pace which well know defenders hate. Onto Leon and Joe, I do feel that there very similar players and we need these types of players to play our system, but they have gone off the boil in the last couple of games, showed some glimpses on Friday that there getting back t where they should be. Now where do I start on Siggy, what a talent, BUT I do think were too reliant on him at present as a lot of people have mentioned we not tend to play everything through him and therefore become predictable, and by doing this we are starving of forwards of the ball. So I'd like pick up the pace when in attack, our forwards do make intelligent runs. Each of or two main forwards have different styles DG likes the ball in front of him so he can run onto it. He won't score with his back to goal he's not going to swivel and bury one. (Probably do that against QPR now) This is where Moore thrives, he does like the ball to feet and he can and does create an opportunity from nothing. He did this on Friday, ball into feet swivels lovely first touch to open up the space, but then dragged the ball wide. Yes I know he missed but He created that chance out of nothing. Just my observations.
and after reading above then this is where we have dropped our standards, 1) loads of possession and at one point 82% to their 18% and we are 1-0 down. that would never happen a few months ago.. 2) we were no threat even after going 1-0 down,.....we use to be a threat to everyone. 3) Swansea were always dangerous though, but much like Norwich and Liverpool, they didn’t create much real danger to Tim Krul’s goal......why? maybe its because we are to busy showboating to the TV cameras. 4)Credit to Brendon Rodgers though, as I say, you can see why they are where they are, if that style of football is played right, it is fool proof......yes it was a couple of months back. but no threat now... 5) Anyway, now that the second was in, Swansea had nothing left from where I was sitting. As I said, if Swansea play that way and get it right it is unplayable,............absolutely right we were still showboating... 6) but unlike Arsenal and even Barcelona, they don’t have the firepower to get themselves back into games once going a couple of goals behind, .......never a truer word spoken . 7) We saw the game out with few problems, ......this would not have happend before brendan changed our playing style. we were a handful for anyone however big the team was.... finally.........lets get back to how we play best as i dont fancy our chances if we dont next season....
Great post neveroffside Ash wasnt tight on to cisse for both goals buti will give him the benefit against what i think was a great centre forward display by the toon player, vorm could have done better also, Taylor looked great to me and got more freedom to express than when he links up with scotty, definatly something we should see more of. We must not underestimate these last 3 games in terms of what the other teams are playing for, as ive said before its clear to me that the buisness end of the season is a different kettle of fish in the Prem league, we are finding this out thankfully with points in the Bag, im sure the manager is learning this and if he stays he will need to find a way to change things when it gets tough.
im sure the manager is learning this and if he stays he will need to find a way to change things when it gets tough. that is absolutely right starting with qpr on Wednesday i hope.....
Neveroff, strangely Danny did just that (swivel and bury one) as it happens against QPR at home - top class goal. Good post but I would add that for all Taylor's and Rangel's attacking prowess (both can be iffy in defence) they continually let us down with a bad cross - often failing to take out the first defender, frequently over hitting the ball and, worst of all, failing to get the cross in at all by putting it over the goal line. As a matter of fact, you can include Sinclair and Dyer in that. Our talent seems to be one sided in that everyone, including even Vorm, can pass the ball but we seem deficient in so many other basics of the game. Apart from Siggi, our general shooting quality is pretty poor for instance. Our tackling is generally weak and recovery pace against a fast break almost non existent. I'm not carping but our passing ability has glossed over many deficiencies that do need a lot of work for us to improve and be a force at this level. I'm hoping that the addition of some quality players will address these problems for next season.
So what's your definition of showboating then Superswan99? To me, it's showing off, doing tricks. I don't think passing the ball (even if you consider it to be excessive passing) can be classed as showboating.
I hope Dyer can get back to using his blistering pace to terrorise teams like he did a while back taking on and beating defenders and even scoring his crossing improved then to !! when the team as a whole clicks thier amazing to watch they seem to have forgoten lately that every prem game is like a cup final and thats what got them to where they are including all the plaudits they`ve recieved ??
Ivor, I must confess I forgot about DG's goal against QPR. But my feeling is that DG likes to get on the end of through balls, where's luke Moore again my interpretation likes the ball to feet in a similar way the Scotlan like the ball to feet and he managed to create his own chances and I see Moore as a similar player. Much of the same can be said of Lita, again I think he likes the ball to feet as well. I have to also agree that Rangel and Taylor are great going forward, but sometimes lacking in defence. Of the two Rangel is the one that worries me most, he sometimes gets caught in no mans land. I'll also agree with the quality of our crosses and shooting. Nothing is more frustrating that a ball fails to clear the first defender, then over hitting it which then more often goes out for a throw in as nobody comes in late at the back post. But then the worst crime of the whole thing is putting a cross out of play, arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what a waste !!! My feeling is that only Routledeg can get a decent cross over, as he did against Man City look what happens. This brings me to shooting, were like russian roulette with our shooting one good shoot to five blanks. Only Siggy seams to have a decent shoot, Allen tries but seams to scuff them, Sinclair has a decent one when he comes in off the line, Dyer is iffy. Now lets be honest these are pro footballers not park players, and basic elements of the game. Just want us to be a little bit more adventurous in attack and do so at pace, Dyer & Sinclair taking on a man for a change. Lets hope some results go our way today.
asswan you dont like the word showboating???? Its playing to the tv cameras and the crowd showing off their skill of one touch passing in their own half without any impact instead of keeping it simple and pass the ball up the field so we can get some goals, we dont have the best fire power in the league as it is so we need all the chances we can inside the box and while we are showboating to please brendans ego to say look what i have got the players doing ....aint it great!!!! we are not doing the most important job of all,.....and that is winning .....im sure or should i say i hope brendan has listened and read comments from football people at what they are saying and go back to the simple style of passing as its a winner and far better proper football that everyone was talking about......im sure he will.....he must if he wants that spurs job....
