    Usually "rolling twelvemonth contract" would mean that in June 13 the option is to renew for 14/15. To sack him THIS summer, would probably cost one years' salary. The alternative is to not renew - this would leave him hanging around like a bad smell, knowing that he's going in 12 months. That might be a dangerous route to go.

    NB obviously I haven't seen his specific contract, but this is based on my HR work with various contract types (including rolling renewals).
