This, it shows that they will give contracts to players who are getting on a bit <ok>

Aye but the bad mouthing from Barton came after the break down in talks. They'd already withdrawn the contract offer when he began bad mouthing. As I say I think it probably comes down to money, Jonas is cheaper than Joey because of profile. Anyway it matters not, Jonas staying does.

    Re. Bartons contract

I don't know if it's been said cause haven't read all the comments but the writing was on the wall for him, Nolan, Harper & Smith after the Hughton sacking.

I remember Barton saying that all the senior players went to the board room and spoke their mind. I can imagine the 4 of them queueing to have a slanging match (as every fan would want to) with the board. Problem is it is FCB who pays their wages and FCB that gets to tell the players what to do not vice versa.

EDIT: Giving Gutierrez a 4 year contract could also be Ashley's way of having a dig at Barton as well as 'securing an asset'

    Great news <diva>

Shows how easy it is to get a player who is, say 28, a long term contract into his 30s if he actually wants to stay at the club <whistle>

You may as you say be wrong, in which case I am too because i'm thinking the same. :) We seem to have a good spirit within the squad and the hispanic/french core seems to be an important part of this so it would be great to keep the key players together. Especially as Colo is such a good player for us.

    Fingers crossed and all that!

    *Shock*

Well you're in luck, we're allowed to renew more than one contract per season <ok>

  9. I personally hope Colo accepts a pay cut to 60k and we keep him on a 3 year contract.

    <ok>

I'll be pissed off if we finish 7th/8th this season and we still keep a 50k wage cap. It could be increased IMO, to get some better players in.

It says on nufc.com that it is an IMPROVED contract. Isn't Gutierrez one of the biggest earners at the club?

If so, maybe there is hope for Collo.

Colo should get a 3 year contract with an option of 1 more season for 60k per week.

Improved could mean in terms of length. Colo will have to take a cut when we offer him a deal, rumoured 80k p/w.

This place would be a lot more exciting with less groupspeak, especially as regards the 'don't talk about Barton' brigade.

To be honest I've discussed Barton way more on this thread than I ever intended! I only mentioned it as it was highly relevant to the discussion on contracts etc. I don't have a problem with anyone on the boards but I think comments like "you still on about this" just have no place. I don't like the royal we I must admit. One of my old bosses used to use it, "we" being the whole management team. It was because he didn't have the balls to deliver bad news messages himself.
