Hope you have yourself a good employment lawyer. Agree to a certain respect on the Liverpool & JT situations. Liverpool should never of defended Suarez but should of made him publicly apologize and accept his punishment with good grace. There was still no need to fire him.

As for Guly, if found guilty I'm sure the club will make him say sorry and reiterate the wrongs of drink driving and he will be sold on or just be allowed to play out his current contract. Much like Mr. Barnard

Still a few shandies too many. Doesn't take much to start impairing your ability to drive safely, especially if you don't drink a lot already. You don't have to be wrecked. All the worse if he's not, as he'd know what he was doing. Silly man..

You simply can not sack someone if they are charged with an offence , there are procedures , maybe your contract of employment was written on the back of a stamp but mine was not .

Charged, no, but convicted in a criminal court I suspect your employer would be able to dismiss you on those grounds. But this doesn't mean that it is what normally or automatically happens.

I have no sympathy with anyone who does this I'm afraid, and he deserves his fine - I don't care who he is!

We wont sell him because he got caught drink driving. He will pay his fine like everyone else, make a public apology and that will be the end of it. It isnt that big a deal. Dont hate someone because they made a stupid mistake.

Good to know that Guly's car is a responsible person. It has clearly also been his mentor over the years.

How do we know this is genuine?

And if it is, it hardly changes things. He's going to court in September it says.

The statement was made in Portuguese, that's a translation.

I don't hate him, I just think he should appear before a court to answer for himself, and take whatever punishment they, and the club, decide is merited.

We don't, similarly we don't know how genuine the Echo report is. Why a Brazilian football website would completely fabricate a statement is a confusing one.

It's equally confusing why he would issue a statement via a 3rd party website.

A crime's a crime, but this isn't as bad as the Lee Barnard case and he didn't get that much stick.

Probably because no one knew quite what had happened with Barnard and we didn't want to presume guilt. Drink driving with breath test/blood test is slam dunk.

He'll get a fine and a ban, the club will probably fine him too. End of. He's been pretty silly, but no harm has been done luckily.

I noticed a few comments about sacking employees for committing a criminal offence being straightforward - it's not. Unless the crime is actually contractually mentioned as a cause for gross misconduct, the employer would need to prove that the offence has a direct effect on the employee's ability to carry out his role, or has a real and noticeable effect on the company's image with potential financial implications.
The second point is extremely difficult to prove normally, unless the employee is very high profile, as proving financial loss has been caused as a DIRECT result of said crime. Just because an employer thinks it is wrong, doesn't necessarily means that he has grounds to dismiss.

In Guly's case it could be argued that the club could sack him, but they would be daft to do it, because he is more valuable as an employee than as an object lesson.

Very well said. I do hope that the apology is genuine. Contrition goes a long way. Strange that actually because it's Guly and he's so divisive (for some strange reason) for people, it's probably getting more attention than if it were Lambert or Lallana. People really are gagging for a stick to beat him with (and it seems get him arrested with, if I'm reading that statement right).
