I for one am not 'claiming' anything you dope - i am telling you that i didnt hear any booing from where i sit, so it was far from very clear booing ! Guly got a good reception from Kingsland North and the Northam. You will always get a few people like you in a crowd of over 29,000 but the vast majority that were there were very happy to see Saints win an important game and to see Guly come on a contribute to that win.
I think we need a Prozone for fans ... here's my stats Minutes watching 90 Songs sung 12 Insults directed at the ref 25 Encoraging jumps up from the seat accompanied by clapping and shouting 6 Boos 0 Pies eaten 0 Amusing comments attempted 10 Amusing comments completed successfully 1 Entertainment had 100%
You are an absolute mug. It is obviously nothing to do with the colour of his skin. Its just many fans dont believe he is good enough yet he plays fairly often; which is still no reason to boo. Dont make up **** about hearing racism, nobody boos Puncheon or Mayuka. Do not be so nieve.
No need for the insults. If he heard someone call Guly a lazy black bastard (which I don't think he has any reason to lie about), then we can safely say that at least one person in that stadium was being racist. If you think there's ever been a Premier League fixture without a single racist person in the stadium, then you're probably being a little naive.
Watching the stream, I certainly felt a bit ambivalent when I saw Guly coming on (hoping it was Mayuka instead if I'm honest...) but I felt very angry about the boos. Glad he showed what a talent he can be - if he had scored that curler it would have been a beauty.
Adkins was asked about the booing and that was the view he took. He said he took JRod off and put Guly on because he felt we needed height to see the game out. He has said that before. Also said he could have put Mayuka on, but height was the issue. Don't think he was being disengenuous, Adkins clearly believed that the booing was about taking JRod off. I also have the feeling that there is a racial element to this. Some may merely dislike Guly as a player, but there is also an element who like to bully black players. Sad, but true.
I really can't support the view that Guly gets booed by a small proportion of the crowd because of his colour, his style drives me mad at times and he often frustrates the hell out of me but that's not because he is black. I condeme any fan booing the lad when he comes on, he needs our support to drive him on and give him confidence. I for one rember the "bad ol'days" when black players got absolutely slaughtered and I salute them for their strength of mind. Saints have a proud history of bringing through the ranks some great black players and the support of the Saints fans must have helped them flourish in these difficult times
I made the exact same point about January last year, and if you go to the games, I'd suggest giving a tip off to a steward. The one near us is fine and actually alright, not a jobs worth at all, and I've said before watch out for that kind of stuff when he has come on.
Fran sadly is correct in her assessment; in recent seasons only two players spring to mind who have been picked on by the fans - both happen to be black and whilst I do not support any booing of our players - I would suggest that there have been others more deserving of such treatment. It is racism; however to try to 'package it up' as something else.
It shames me to say it of fellow Saints fans, but I'm beginning to think that there is a Xenophobic element to this, even if it's unconsious. It's not that long ago that Fabrice Fernandes got similar treatment, and he was our most talented player at the time. Of course he wasn't black, he was French which is even worse (joke ffs) , and that seemed to be enough for some people to get on his back in a way they never would about an English player.
Sorry but this is not funny and most definitely not taken as a joke. Implicit in this throw away remark is the worst kind of racism. It is racist but you don't think it is.
When you are in a hole you are supposed to stop digging. If you thnk it is funny then please tell me if you say being French is worse than being black then what is black worse than being? Or to put it another way for you what is better than being Black? Implicit in you supposed joke is the suggestion that being black is also worse than being something else. Your comments make value judgements about people based on race and your portraying it as a joke is an attempt to get others to agree with your negative views of certain races.
I can remember lot's of white Saints players being booed in the past. Cockerill towards the end of his Saints career used top get no end of stick for instance.
Booing the players is terrible. We don't need to demotivate our players. We need to get behind them and cheer them on!
