No idea , bought it at a garage sale off a girl who broke up with her boyfriend and was practically giving his stuff away ( I assume without his knowledge )

Yep Musicman are top quality bass guitars. The Stingray was designed by Leo Fender and was really innovative when it was launched. They were really popular for funk music as their punchy tone is great for slapping and popping. I was inspired by Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who tore sheds out of his Stingray. I use one today in the band I play in, and I can pick out a Stingray tone on any record.

@Babe Roof you paid $300 for the Stingray ? That is an absolute bargain. Even average second hand ones go for around £800-£1000

Just looked up some prices ...holy fuk , did well there it seems . I bet the ex boyfriend murdered that girl .
I know very little about musical instruments but always hit up charity shops , pawn shops and garage sales . My son is only a call away .
I've bought Marshal amps cheap and bass amps cheap . Buy used is my motto , no matter what your buying ... bought tons of antiques the same way .

  8. £100 for even a Mexican Strat is ridiculously cheap.

    I'd be extremely wary.

Sounds to me that it's most likely a Fender Squire Strat. The Affinity series typically sell for less than £100 on Ebay, so if it's one of those, then he's asking over the odds.

Luv. This is a typical looking Strat. If it's really old - like 50's or '60's, it's probably worth far more. Ask the guy if he knows how old it is...

Most guitars will have a serial number stamped on the back of the neck where it bolts to the body, some have it on the back of the bolt plate or on the bridge.

I'm pretty sure Fender have a list that you can search that will give you a date for the guitar using the serial number.

I can usually tell the older ones at a glance. The way they're made. Hand finished necks, the old humbucking pick-ups, etc. And a tremolo, which seem to be making a bit of a comeback recently....

Yep same with Basses, lots of the older ones had pick up guards, string dampners, less pots etc. The serial number will give you a definite year though.

  14. It'll be something real cheap and nasty, like an Affinity Squire.

This is missing, I take it that it is easily replaced?

  16. Yes, there are a few guitar parts suppliers on the net from whom you'll be able to pick up that part quite readily.

It all depends on guitar. Strats with Tremolos have a specific bridge which has a mech underneath that 'bends' the strings. You'd need a specific bridge as well as the tremolo arm. I'm not sure if all strat bodies have the cut out in underneath for the mech.

  18. Just to clarify...

Are you saying that the entire trem system is missing? As in, no silver bit at the back of the guitar (the bit where the strings attach to), and no springs in the cavity of the body (accessed from beneath the guitar)? Or are you merely saying that the trem arm is missing?

If the entire trem system is missing, but the strings are still attached to some kind of bridge, then it could be the case that this Strat has a fixed-bridge.

    Just the arm.

  20. Yeah, that's what I thought. Please ignore Pixie. He's plays bass and knows next to **** all about proper guitars.

The arm is an easy replacement.

Somewhere like www.allparts.uk.com will sort you out.
