Iommi is right up there for me, but, unfortunately his skill was lost in the later music. Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath, all time favourite album; I never will tire of it.
Peter Green, the 3 Kings B B, Freddie, Albert, T Bone Walker, Elmore James all better than most of those mentioned. Not to mention Steve Cropper who has written and appeared on more records than most. In my opinion. Oh, and of course Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
I love playing that. I play 'Wish you were here' just a little bit better than Gilmour actually....imo
Wouldn't say his skill was lost personally, more their musical direction.. Although throughout sabbaths lifespan iommi has always had a knack of consistently writing some of the greatest riffs in heavy metal/rock, even up to their latest album 13!!
Was wondering why he hadn't been mentioned. Before the time of many on here. Great story about how Hank B Marvin got the first Stratocaster in this country because he thought Burton must have had one to produce the sound he did, only to find out years later when he met him and told him about it that Burton had always played a Telecaster.
Watched it a few nights ago on the BEEB - hadn't seen it before. How long's it been out ? Interesting indeed....reckon he's still a little antagonistic to Waters based on this doc.
