    These are not normal times.

    Imagine:

    * You are a French club facing bankruptcy before the season ends.
    * Player A is worth €40m.
    * Leeds offer to buy A for €30m, with €10m paid immediately, the rest in normal instalments.
    * A contract, letter of intent, or whatever instrument fits, is drawn up to this effect, with a clause that if they go bust before the end of the season, we get to buy A for the outstanding €20m.

    How can this not happen?

Orta was talking to to 3 German clubs, 2 French clubs, a Serbian club as well as Spanish clubs. All before the window was open. All done legal and above board. Done because either A) aware the club wanted cash or to get rid of a player. b) an agent informs Orta who then asks the question. c) Orta just making an enquiry .

    And so he should! :D

Glad he's on the ball. Being a hard-nose, though, I think he should have the paperwork completed by now.

Then again, he might already have done! Hopefully. :D

    Highest break 87.

Last red tight on the side cushion and I made a decent attempt down the rail but rattled it in the jaws.

    Barsteward...the ton was on.

Can only manage about 40ish these days as the eyes are fading <ok>

Phil Hay reckons Rodrigo De Paul want to come to Leeds and contacts between his agent and Orta have taken place. The Atlantic South American expert says its a fact that Bielsa and De Paul admire each other but dealing with the Udinese people is hard and we had just spent £100m in the Summer and his price was a step too far..... at that time. As WJ says, I hope a deal is now on the table because he is deffo leaving Udi.

Highest break 61. It's got to be the most frustrating game ever. Some days it clicks and you think you've mastered it. Other days you're playing as if it's the first time you've picked up a cue <doh>

Totally ****s with your head

You see, I set you up with an open goal there to display your past glories - I knew it was much higher than 30!

Don’t get him started on football anyone - he gets better every time we discuss it. Shezza :emoticon-0136-giggl

I know you can put everything in place in terms of an agreement, I could be wrong but then I thought a player can’t sign a pre contract with the new club until he was in the last six months of his contract. Isn’t that how Celtic got caught out by Liverpool over the Ben Davies transfer?

That would be an official pre-contract. There are other methods out there. I was never on the Sales side when I worked at IBM, but I do remember the Sales teams being really happy when a 'Letter of Intent' was signed. It gave a broad notion of the contract & was legally binding to both. Then the nitty-gritty got negotiated. Times may have changed, but there are legal ways & means that we simple supporters are not privy to.

    Show-off!

Many years ago when I played, it was usually an '8-7, then on to the colours' format. Scores were always very close, along the lines of 356-350. At least the 4 hour match gave us a great chance to get loads of pints down us. The beer never once made us play any worse.

The 6 month pre contract agreement is that the player can sign one without any reference to his present club, ie they are not able to stop him signing that agreement.

If two clubs want to make an agreement regarding a future transfer in which a player is agreeable, then they are free to do so, it just can't proceed formerly until the next transfer window.

The downside to the type of deal that Doc intimates, is what happens if after initial deposit of £10m, the player we are going to sign in the summer for the discounted total price of £30m (instead of the market value of £40m) gets a long term injury. In normal circumstances the selling club would return the deposit. However, the situation we are talking about is these French clubs are desperate for cash, and thus probably wouldn't be in a position to pay that money back, else they wouldn't have needed to agree to such a discounted deal in the first place.

No mate, the first three or four pints definitely have the Werbeniuk effect, after the fourth pint you just think you're playing amazingly :emoticon-0105-wink:
