fascinating stuff. Backs up my belief that players nowadays are akin to middle-distance runners in their fitness, but middle distance don't race two times a week for nine months of the year.

but they do run 10k a day in trianing don't they...

its just the amount of peak high intensity running they do.

If for example a footballer just makes less sprints and jogs about he can get up there but do nothing... however if a guy spirtins everywhere and is done after 60mins it doesn't mean he's not as fit as the guy hwo's jogged about.

    sure did
the norm was 14-15 players and often they were playing 60 games with internationals
and then there ware the "pitches" which often looked worse than present day sunday league standard <laugh>

yes so the concept of "intense" sprinting is the question.

    Did a player in 1970 cover 3, 5, 7 or 10km in a game... etc etc.

anyway.. all we can say is they are prima donnas these days

I don’t feel sorry for him at all. What happened last night was almost certainly down to him. He did his hammy the first time he ran, that should never happen due to the warm up routines, but as has been highlighted on a number of occasions Sturridge is always half arsed in those sessions.

Given his injury history that makes him a half arsed professional footballer for me, he also looked podgy last night, the twat is pulling £6m a year as a pro and can’t be ****ing arsed doing things right, he’s a piss poor example of the modern player, which is a huge shame as the bloke has always had a big talent.

Pardew took a punt and it’s failed, as even if it’s a light strain that a normal player would take 2 weeks to come back from, Sturridge will be 2/3 months virtually guaranteed, so Pardew has backed the wrong horse and WBA’s fate is probably now sealed. What a pro, well done Daniel <doh>

You'd think with that amount of money he would have all his body kitted with bionic replacements.
Studge Austin is the 6 million dollar man

fair enough. I don't give a crap TBH.

He's now worthless to us of course but ho hum only a moron would buy him or laon him anyway.

IMO pardew has done a **** job there given what he has available

    Foster- fair to middling keeper
Evans (wants gone has been blocked 3 times now)
Hegazi looked decent in both games we played agaisnt them (so thats a decent CB pairing)
Mcauley scores a few off set peice
Livermore, mcclean and chaldi are there as function CMs
Gibbs as a woeful lb but he is at least prem standard
brunt... as home boy leading the team
Jay rod and rondon as forwards.

Like... theres no excuse for where that team is. they can defend when they are bothered. the fact is they seriously struggle for goals (not the worst) but defensively they are actually average

the issue they have is they had a run of really tought games but before them they lost to swansea and stoke and have also lost to southampton which are all direct rivals so very poor results.

their only hope now is next 6 are all rivals again before utd and LFc games in april. Even if they win 4 or 5 they might not be out of relegation zone now.

I think you’re being harsh on Pardew there tbh, as before he arrived they were a backs to the wall side praying for a set piece. Before Chelsea scored a sublime goal last night they were the better team, controlling the game like they were at home. They’ll go down due to their lack of goals, which is what Pardew sought to address with Sturridge, a player at a level who he could have never bought with his budget.

I've never liked the ****. I think he's a spiv and a nasty twat who's antics and thuggery show the kind of man he is <ok>

Nothing against the club par se even if they are a bit old school type fans. (as in sing sign on and **** like that) they are not a fashionable club so are what they are.

No argument there, he’s a smug **** and as dodgy as they come by all accounts. However, I don’t think he’s a bad manager.

    just for the record

Reading - lower leagues promotion. playoff losers
West ham play off losers, then play off winners, losers in 2006 FA cup to us and 9th in prem. credible. sacked following year for absolute ****e performance
charlton - took over couldn't keep them up (they were ****e in fairness) 11th in championship. then sacked in relegation zone in championship
southampton league 1. won league trophy (****e cup) couldn't get out of league one in 2 attempts at it so sacked
Newcastle: did ok, got prem manager of year award. team imploded under him and the fans turned on him and ashley. Was it ashely totally, was it the buying of ****e french players? jumps ship to palace. leaves newkie in rag order
Palace - takes over in relegation zone gets them to top half. Next season start well then slump badly, reach fa cup final and lose... bad form continues and is sacked
West brom. Takes over in 17th on 12 points after 14 games get a sum totla of 8 points since

Basically my view of him is he is able to get a short term gain at a club but the pattern with him is very clear. poor signings and after 6 -12 months it all goes to **** and results go south.

2 FA cup finals is credible though. He has tried to win the thing.

I just think he's a poor enough manager not based on coaching ability but on keeping a dressing room aligned for a longer period and buying players.

His record is clear that he has turned a few clubs round Like west ham and newcastle but they've all blown up on him. (some might say it blows up on everyone these days)

nah pards is terrible. Normally gets a good lift short term. Long term he always drags his clubs down. See MITOs post.

As for the west brom team, i don't actually think they are as bad as you are making them out to be.

They struggled under Pulis for goals because it's pulis ball and hes all about team shape, discipline not attacking too much and getting a set piece.

Their actual players are actually pretty good in my book. Jay Rod will get a few goals (and its actually been criminal he dropped him for studge, he was on good form scoring goals) and Rondon who was a decent finisher but is now dogshit still causes trouble ala heskey because of his physicality.

Phillips, Kyrchowiak, Chadli are all tehnically good players.

They are going down though as they are proper in the **** right now

Throughout his career he’s had spells were he can’t buy a result, but offset by some good periods. Streaky is how I’d describe it. Doesn’t make him a ****e manager though, so I’ll call bollocks on him being ‘terrible’, there’s far worse out there robbing a living in the game.
