As Janabelle wanted more of these..... Colin Bowe has 4yo bay gelding LOCK'S CORNER entered at the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham sales tomorrow. This son of lovely sire GOLD WELL won on his only outing in a Dawston p2p by twelve lengths. The dam , Last Century is by Glacial Storm and has already produced one 132 rated winner under rules. So, will he top the sale? How much will he go for, guesses please.
No idea and I don't know the value of that PTP win . If it was impressive enough for Mullins to be interested in (for one of his owners) then it could top £250k
Colin Bowe had the first two home in that P2P. I must temper your enthusiasm for the dam though, she hasn't produced a 132 rated winner - Steele's Rock has a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 132 but his Official Rating (OR) is a rather ordinary 112. I guess some will be impressed by the manner of his victory though so I will plump for £55,000
Interesting. So if the rest of the field were donkeys that 12l win could have been with a view to selling him. As I said, I have no idea of the value of that race so, as with any auction, it depends who's there with a view to buying that particular horse It's almost impossible to have any idea of the selling price without seeing the horse, preferably in action. Even (seemingly) beautifully bred youngsters can fall down on their looks With young show jumpers you at least get to see them free school and get a good idea of their natural ability (ie not how high they jump but their positioning, cleverness and shape when they jump)
That's the key Ron - I guess these Irish P2Ps are attended by some very knowledgeable people looking to buy potential stars of the future. If someone with an experienced eye saw something they liked very much then there will be an interesting auction. (On paper the breeding of the 3rd caught my eye - by Network out of a Robin Des Champs mare. Went off fav too but finished only 3rd).
I can see why that one caught your eye Oddy. The fact that it only came 3rd could mean a number of things eg: it could have been an educational outing and there is more to come, flattering the winner it isn't as good as they had thought, flattering the winner the winner is pretty smart If it ends up in the Mullins or Elliott yard we'll soon have an idea
ooooofffffff Stuart Crawford's THE VERY MAN sells for 210,000 sold to Gordon Elliott so easy to guess who's money he was spending!
LOCK'S CORNER Well I put him up as the competition horse because I like him a lot but we were all outbid by Mr McManus who went to £215,000 to take him. Currently top lot. Will be hugely interesting to see who ends up training him, maybe worth another comp among the bidders? Nicky Henderson???
New top lot at the Cheltenham May Sale with Monkfish, winner of the 4yo Maiden at Stowlin for Cormac Doyle sells for £235,000 to Harold Kirk & WP Mullins.
