Yeah it looks a good choice for him. Not convinced he will cut it here. Bayern will give a better picture of his true talents.
Just a question. Do the people who doubt Guardiola's ability because he has only been succesful at one club and inherited a decent team have the same doubts & questions about Bob Paisley?
Have to say that I do agree. I don't think Pep is the manager everyone claims he is but the above is the minimum respect you must give the man. I feel that a lot of the heavy lifting was done by his technical staff behind the scenes, the coaches at La Masia for example. It was them who taught Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, Busquets, etc everything they knew about football. It was their hard work during Rijkaard's tenure that really brought them up from starlets to world-class. He did tactically change the squad, though pass-move football has been ingrained into the club since long before Rijkaard even. He did sell their best players, which takes extreme courage. Though those decisions came from not just him, but from within the club. Eto'o, Deco, Ibrahimovic, Ronaldinho all forced out. One thing I didn't like was that he bowed down to Messi's demands and forced Ibra out of Barca, where they didn't get along. The manager should eliminate all malcontent amongst stars even. Can you imagine if two star strikers started whining about each other under Shankly? They would run up and down the Anfield steps so many times together that their children would be acclimatized. He also did have the security of money at the time, as Barca were free to spend any sum. I see him as an inexperienced manager, like AVB, who had the good luck to be at Barca when he did. He obviously made the best of his opportunity, and now we're ready to see if he can replicate it. If he does, there is no question of whether or not he's a good manager.
The beebs headlinhe of a short while ago Pep Guardiola: Former Barcelona boss wants to manage in England
it's a different era and because of that its never thought of. Now you raise the question, i'd have to say yes as I would Kenny (1st run). the key difference now is Money. We weren't the financial powerhouse back then as Barca are now. looking at the progression of the british transfer record we have only featured as the buyer in 1 transfer, Colleymore in '95 - ironically we featured as a selling club during our 80's heyday when we sold Rush to Juventus
I think the guy will win the German league first season tho The team he's taking can play and I reckon that team looked far more appealing than United or Chelsea by far. They should have won the CL but for misfortune. A manc comment off 606, I was convinced it was UIR, and the usual richest club and that they still think the club is worth over 2bn On a serious note i honestly believe that the self styled 'Special One' is the most overated manager. A Scholes 'Offside' goal from being a nobody. All the money at Porto,Chelsea ,Inter and Real Madrid. His teams will NEVER be held in high esteem like the 70s teams of Ajax & Bayern or various Utd,Liverpool,AC milan outfits, never mind Barca. The bloke is just too scared to be a great manager. And they call scousers deluded
Absolutely no doubt he did a fantastic job, better than any other current manager currently managing to win so much in such a short time, the great fergie could only wish for such success in a 4 year spell. But to say he didn't have a great foundation to start with in an environment he knew inside out is shortsighted at best
