You seem to have a racist fixation/obsession/mania about colour....you might need a little counselling about that before it eats you up.
No you continue to refer to ethnics in a derogatory way. You just can't help yourself and I get why that bloke was your friend. You do it and I will call you out every time.
You only have to look at newspaper headlines over the past few days to see racism is the biggest threat it’s been since the 1930’s. We have an overt racist winning the Dutch election and it’s uncertain what instability will follow if other parties understandably refuse to go into coalition with him. We have the underlying racism laid bare by the Gaza conflict - anti-Semitism on the one hand and anti-Muslim on the other. We have rioting in Dublin, in part it seems driven by far-right groups. Lastly, and closest to home, we have the ludicrous battle over LEGAL immigration to the UK. Concerns over “people in boats” I sort of understand, largely in my case anyway because a proportion drown on the way and another ends up exploited by gangs of some sort, even if it’s washing our cars on abandoned filling station sites rather than sex workers or drug trafficking. What’s wrong with people coming here to study on bona fide courses? What’s wrong with people coming here to work in the understaffed care sector? This morning, Robert Jenrick is proposing a cap on immigration of social care workers. Why? Brits won’t get out of bed to do it, but like to have a good whinge when it’s their granny or grandad living in pain and squalor. We’re short of labour in many sectors and in a vicious circle we haven’t seen since the 1970’s, that’s exacerbating the cost of living crisis as wages are forced up. Are we really going to slash benefits to force Brits out of their pits and into work? Do we have the stomach for that? Will there be rioting on the streets like there was when Thatcher introduced the very logical Poll Tax? A very large proportion of the population seems to prefer someone else to pay for them and ideally work instead of them too. Racism has always been a problem although you’d have thought as we style ourselves as ever more civilised, it would die away like belief in witches and other nonsense. Instead, it’s growing like a cancer and threatening important international institutions as well as domestic peace.
Just one other point. Does anyone else see the utter incongruity of fascist groups coming out on the streets of London to oppose a demonstration largely consisting of Muslims protesting against Jews? Since when did closet Nazis have any sympathy for Jews?
This friend was of mixed race....and he just didn't like the area....nothing to do with racism ....maybe you are being derogatory in this instance.
NotDistant it sounds as if Leicester has changed a bit since your time nearby. Leicester has a population of 368,600 (2021). Asian.....43.4% White.....40,9% Black.....7.8% Other.....4.1% Mixed.....3.8% So at times it would be feasible not to hear English spoken as a first language.....as I said above my friend was of mixed race and he just didn't like the area....nothing to do with racism as sensible is joyfully shouting from the roof tops.
Just checked Plymouth against the 2021 census. White.....94% Asian.....2.2% Black.....1.1% Mixed.....1.8% So Plymouth is probably one of the whitest Cities in the UK.......why is that... aren't Asians/Blacks welcomed in the south-west ? In fact there is more chance of seeing non-whites on a Saturday afternoon playing football at Home Park than walking around the city shopping.
Good article in places notDistant...and I would agree with a lot of what you say. Some of the worst exploitation (hate to use the word racialism) comes from the middle east.... bringing servants in to be nothing better than slaves....who haven't the right paperwork to legally stand alone outside their employers homes. Also Nail Bar workers also without legal paperwork who are exploited no better than slaves. The Dublin riot has surprised me....not sure quite what is going on there.....can't blame the British Imperialist for that. But I do agree to a certain amount about the Government getting none working...lead swinging Brits back to work....just need to separate the genuine ill from those who have made a career of not working on purpose....some going back two or three generations of fiddling the system of benefits. You shouldn't have mentioned my pet hate...Thatcher...destroyed British industry and halved my wages by introducing none union firms who exploited the workforce in a time of high unemployment very distasteful...causing untold financial disaster on workers. This women undermined the need for affordable council properties...by selling them off at below the currant value.....and then these new Tory voters... when allowed to...sold their properties at the going rate making hugh profits on their original purchase price....and of course council housing was never replaced....and so came the Rackmanism style of rent exploitation and slum dwellings taking us back to the 1920/30's era. AND Thatcher jumping on the Falklands crises....and beating the patriotic drum.....and swinging her possible election defeat into an election victory built on patriotism against the Argentinians.
The majority of the Asian would speak English except when with family etc and even then, to the younger generations (by which I mean of working age), English is effectively their first language, so I don't know where your friend did his listening. I worked in Bedfordshire after we left the East Midlands. There's a sizeable proportion of Italians in the area who came from Italy to escape poverty after WW2. Every other car in Bedford is a Fiat or Alfa Romeo. Now you will hear Italian being spoken in the street and supermarket but only by the older generations (by which I mean pensioners) who do have little English. We went to the Italian wedding of an Italian friend of Mrs. Distant. The service was in Italian (and Latin being Catholic) but everyone I spoke to spoke English. I think I still have traces of the hangover. She similarly had Hindi friends she worked with in Leicester (most Asians in Leicester are Hindi) and we never had problems communicating with them either. Toxic cultures thrive when there's casual acceptance of racist, religious and sexist bias. Yes, there's a lot of excessive wokery out there, which annoys us all, but there is also rampant and growing racism, which is easy to justify when it's your group applying the prejudice but not so much when you're on the receiving end. We're all prone to it but it's wise to give yourself a mental kick in the bollocks when you catch yourself doing it.
You don't have to be white to be racist they exist in all races and colours. You commented about him turning his head if he heard English spoken. I doubt very much that English wasn't spoken in the majority of conversations on those streets. Ergo racist comment. You know you are so why deny it now when a whole load of your comments have suggested otherwise.
My Partner is mixed race ? Her mum is from Trinidad her father lives in new york he is white.. she is a great colour .. oh is that racist ... i hear a lot people say things about her or call her,, but just walk on or drive on she just smiles at them .. quite sad really.. There are plenty of different people in the city plym. not sure those figures are correct .. but i dont worry who lives here or anywhere no problems to me ..
Been looking through GoS match day pictures..........the only non-white person I could find was a steward.......don't they follow Argyle then ?
The majority of the people on security duty checking for pyrotechnics and searching bags are black. There are a fair number of stewards who are black. Walk down any street in Plymouth or catch a bus then a fair few of the people on there are black. There are a number of Asians as well. There are a couple in my street who live there. Shock horror Princerock is full of Asians. Stonehouse is full of Eastern Europeans and Muslims. God forbid they are even in Plymstock. There are absolutely loads who work in Derriford Hospital. Good job they are here eh! There used to be loads of Eastern Europeans who worked in the Nursing Homes. Not so now thanks to Brexit and the prats who voted for it. Now they can't get people recruited. Maybe the Gos photographer is racist and only takes photos of the white people. Who'd have thought it eh! Your description of your "friends" reasons for not liking it in Leicester is a racist one and there is no other interpretation you can make. "If her heard an English voice" sort of gives it away because if his reasons for not liking it there were no racist then why the need to even mention it in the first place. Bit like the black bloke in your paper shop isn't it. You come out with all of this crap and then get arsey because somebody says it;'s racist when clearly it is exactly what you mean. You know when people start a statement with "I'm not racist but......." and then go on to prove that's exactly what they are. Free speech is fine and should be defended but you cannot then be surprised if others challenge your speech and what you say or think in your own front room should stay there in some circumstances.
You'll have to tell the 2021 Census that they've missed all the Blacks and Asian etc that live in Plymouth because you know better.....94% white they say....one of the least multicultural cities in the UK. Just tell them (2021 Census)that sensible always knows better and can smell out a racist from 200 miles away....discussing such things with you is totally pointless once you've made your mind up......sensible always knows better....why don't you get that inscribed in stone and place it by your front door...just in case someone local hasn't realized how right you always are.
I live here and know what I see. You don't. You don't discuss you make racist comments and then cry you are being got at when it's picked up. You stop for a while and then do it all over again no matter that you are told it's offensive. You just can't help yourself. Being old isn't an excuse for being ignorant.
To be always right must be quite a burden for you......we will have to leave it there......and agree to disagree about your views of me.....my friends....black/brown or mixed have come across your type before.....at least I do have friends from other nationalities'.....I wonder if you do .
It intrigues me why so many of the stewards at Home Park are black. It’s quite out of proportion with the local population. I don’t believe they’re employed directly by the club but I feel sure PAFC will have made sure proper T&Cs apply. I did have a long chat with one guy last season. I was in an end seat adjacent to one of the vomitory walls and he was one of the “gate guards”. He was a lovely chap: l’d say 1 in 10 who came in through that entrance either spoke to him in recognition or he spoke to them, so obviously I wasn’t the only one he’d engaged with. He actively scanned people and went over to help the lost & bewildered before they asked. He messed around with kids he recognised. He said he’d been at Argyle for 3 seasons and although an Arsenal fan, was hoping we’d be promoted (it was the Saturday on which we did confirm promotion). He certainly didn’t seem downtrodden in the slightest. It’s the mess we get into that I didn’t ask him “how did you end up here” even though it would have been out of genuine interest because it so easily comes across as “why don’t you **** off back where you came from” which is not at all what I would have meant. He could just about have been the age to be a uni student although probably PhD rather than 1st degree. He was such an ambassador for the club that I nearly rang up and said so but didn’t. I haven’t seen him since: perhaps he finished his course….
Reminds me of that elderly lady who was part of the Queens entourage....who tried starting a conversation with "where do you come from" and the Black women got her sacked....when there wasn't a racist bone in that ladies life.
Bobble hats, fleeces, scarves, all-terrain boots and COTTON SHORTS. Again yesterday in 2*C (13 shillings and ninepence in old money). WHY, IN GOD’s NAME? Not one sighting but TWO!
