    It’d take some thought.

    Maybe a best XI thread?

I did like Beckenbauer but he let himself down with his involvement with FIFA.

I think people also view things with a more cynical eye as they get older whereas as a youngster you’re easily blinded by just the onfield stuff. Many are stuck in the “good old days” when everything was “better” which will affect their ability to choose consistently.

I don’t tend to consider stuff from before my time as it’s hard to judge a player’s true worth on hearsay & positive footage. (Messi last night was shocking 2nd half a lot of his play would have looked **** in Lg2, but all people will see is his goal, which I thought was quite ordinary).

It’s also hard to determine a difference between “like” & “best”. My criteria for choosing would be different to somebody else’s.

A debate on best players from different eras would probably be better. The game has changed so much over time that it’s difficult to compare players from different eras objectively.

Once narrowed down, through pre-set criteria it would be a laugh trying to come up with a definite top 10

Here's hoping we get a lot of quite ordinary goals like that next season.

Yeah I agree and don't get why people like him. Especially English people after what he did to us, bloody criminal that and wasn't even ashamed.

Yeah, agree. Maybe will post summat after the World Cup, to offer a distraction to the ongoing Hull Tigers City shambles.

    Eh?

I don't 'like' him, but it doesn't blind me to fact that he is the most talented footballer so far.

I've got new respect for Ronnie after this WC mainly because he has worked so hard on his game and is obsessive about being the best. He seems like a one man team at times.

I think Messi is extremely quick with his feet and brain, but he not a leader like Maradona was nor does have the fear factor that Maradona induced in opponents.

    This.

Grates like **** to say this, but Maradona's footballing talent is beyond question. Barcelona, Napoli, Argentina. The rest of it on and off the pitch puts him in the Charlie Caroli category.

Grates like **** to say this also, but there's another side to Ronny off the pitch that endears him to me also.

    Messi is quality.

    Never tire of watching this.

Boots not even laced, warming up, probably still coming down after his ching binge the previous night.

'You have to say that's magnificent' indeed.

His refusal to pay his tax contributions?

He can pay for all amounts of kid’s operations but the fact is if he & other criminal ****s like him paid what they owed there’d be less kids waiting for them.

Jimmy Savile. He must be in everybody’s top 10 fund raisers.

Sorry- just found this Maradona hattrick v Lazio.

Never seen a goal like the second one. Third one is direct from a corner.

Freakishly gifted footballer, much of it not in any coaching manual.
