The afternoon's entertainment was spent with this Spartan South Midlands League Division 1 fixture. Brimsdown had a team of cloggers and cheats, one guy almost cut a Broxbourne fella into 2, he must have thought he was Bruce Lee. The game ended 1-1 with around 30 enthusiasts.
A rather run down ground on the outskirts of Cheshunt, it had character is the best I could say. On entering the ground the turnstile operator gathered I was a hopper as "we have so few new faces here", and found it rather amusing that I was a Charlton fan on account of there "not being many of you"! Belated thanks to Mr Lardiman.
Apologies for the delay, but everyone will agree this one is worth waiting for... Brigg Town FC vs North Ferriby Saturday 12th October, 3:00pm (part 1)
It was the annual non-league day. The game was very well advertised and Brigg were rewarded with a gate over 500, normally they are getting 150.
I'm not a fan of this neck of the woods as well. Living in Bromley is nice, but too near Petts Wood. I can relate to what you are saying.
To be honest, I preferred Ponders End and Edmonton to Brimsdown. At least those places had decent pubs and cafes (not any more, though). Waltham Cross and Cheshunt were decent places to live back in the 90s. Coming from Thamesmead, they were like Royal Tunbridge Wells to me.
In New Eltham we keep on getting visitors from Bromley during the hours of night, thieving little toe rags from Bromley.... build a wall I say!
This one was a cracker. Mrs Elfs wanted us to visit her friends, they live about 5 miles from Scunthorpe. So having an 'afternoon spare' I looked to see who was playing locally and Brigg became the destination. The husband wanted me to go to Scunthorpe v Northampton, I politely declined! Brigg v North Ferriby was a Northern Counties East League Division 1 game. The game finished in bizarre fashion. With around 10 minutes to go a Brigg forward received an elbow to the head and was knocked unconcious. After a delay of 30 minutes waiting for the ambulance I came to the conclusion that the game would be abandoned, so I walked out as the ambulance approached the ground. I stuck the internet on later to find the game finished 1-1 with North Ferriby equalising in the last 3 minutes. The game would have been delayed by about an hour once the ambulance had taken the player to hospital.
As you can see from these pictures, this ground was a cracker. £3 Concessionary admission £2 Programme .20p Teamsheet £2 Badge £6.40 2 pints Total outlay £13.60 Once again, multiple to Mr Lardiman.
More Tiddler's Travels are on the way soon - apologies for the delay. You might even get two photo sets at once
