The protest today takes me to an exciting Hertfordshire derby. London Colney v Colney Heath in the Spartan South Midlands League.
London Colney play in the very pleasant village of the same name, about 4 miles from St Albans. The ground has a bit of character but they do seem to run on the bare bones. On finding out there were no programmes I bumped into a lady who had the official team sheets and she very kindly let me take copies on my phone, I then made a beeline for the bar and found nobody serving. The teamsheet lady followed after about five minues to serve a very decent pint of San Miguel for a very reasonable £3.60 The officials guest room/boardroom was next to the bar, which made it all very cosy.
A very basic, and run down ground saw about 75 fans see Colney Heath win 2-0 comfortably. £7 full admission price £7.20 for two pints of San Miguel Programmes and badges not available Total outlay £14.20
Here it is at last... Chessington & Hook United (part 1) If Roland shuts down CAFC, our future could look a bit like this for a year or three... Love the 'Board Room' door.
With the official attendance of 85 for this game matching what is left of the apologists, they would still come along enjoying the matchday experience.
I don't mean to be disrespectful, but it looks like if the Council said travellers could stay there they'd pass it up. Or if they did stay a few weeks it would probably look tidier after they left!
Here's a pretty late post too... ... from last weekend Donny v the Mighty Addicks ... Part 2 to follow soon...
This one is bloody hard work from the train station. Having been here twice before I knew the crack on how to get there, a ten minute taxi ride of £5 was more than acceptable saving the faffing around of a bus. Next to the train station there were four decent enough boozers for me and my Swedish mates to enjoy. Two of them needed a drink after having met "my strange looking friend". The ground is 12 years old and tbf is alright, and very fan friendly. Knowing that transport could be a problem on the way back, not all taxis would pick you up, we left with two minutes to go and caught the bus outside back into town and was back in the Wetherspoons for 5.30 We drew 1-1.
