I'm going to watch the North London derby, then head out to Witham Town F.C v Norwich United. What are you guys up to today?
Broadbridge Heath v Eastbourne Town. Broadbridge move to a new ground next season so this was pencilled in as a must sometime. Unfortunately it's an athletics stadium so not looking forward to it too much.
Programme with admission £5. I asked if the unemployed counted and they said yes Another Moretti at half time makes up for it so they have not lost out!
The town of Eastbourne has three decent non-league sides: Borough, formerly known as Langney Sports; United, once managed by Ron Greenwood; and Town, who play at the Saffrons, a ground occasionally used by Sussex CCC. I lived in Eastbourne for a short period during my teenage years (yes, I was sent to a naughty kids' home). I played a handful of matches for Langney Sports U15s, and I worked as a ballboy at The Oval (United) for a couple of matches - got paid 50p, a Mars bar and a bottle of Panda Pop. I came back naughtier than ever.
Went to the Town v United derby last season. A cracking atmosphere generated by the Town ultras in a gate of about 500. I'll be doing the reverse fixture on Easter Monday.
I may just join you, Elfs. I have fond memories of The Oval, for I once squeezed a girl's boobs on the back row of the old grandstand. please log in to view this image
I'll gladly join you on the hops, but you'll have to drink the hops, as I am teetotal. The Eastbourne jaunt sounds good to me. I'll be in touch nearer the time.
I always knew that Broadbridge played in athletics stadium so kept putting it off until now. This is their last season before moving next to here BUT this will be their own ground and all money goes to them as opposed to at the moment where it is basically turnstile money to then pay the officials. Broadbridge is about three miles from the town but there is a frequent bus service so not an issue to get there, and speaking to a guy in the second half who very kindly offered me a lift back it meant me getting the 17.20 as opposed to the 18.20 so that was appreciated. Eastbourne won this comfortably and would have been even more so if Broadbridge had gone down to ten when they should after an atrocious tackle in the first half only got a yellow. Eastbourne ended up winning 4-1 so ensuring their fans, who made up half the gate of about 35 went home happy.
You are really scraping the barrel now Elfs - just in time for your boycott to end. After a 20 min trawl of Donny, I have just stumbled upon an oasis of civilisation ...
To be fair Royston it is Sunday. There are places I've visited doing site work (usually in the South West) where the high streets look like that at 9am every morning.
Costa does the best flat white; Nero does the best cappuccino. Nero does the best cakes etc (the Sicilian lemon cheesecake is divine); Costa does the best paninis. I'd call it a draw, though Costa's points system beats Nero's coupon hands down. Starbucks is just plain awful. Pret is for pretentious prets.
