Another game, another dominant performance, another result not reflecting how we played. Yet again we had all the best chances, about a dozen corners and it failed to tell. We are comfortably the best team in this league IMO but we cannot ever seem to put away our chances and of course the goalkeeper goes and plays a blinder again.
I don't really understand. We couldn't beat Birmingham but they go and lose by a cricket score today. What is it about us that inspires the best out of all our opponents? With the exception of Ipswich we seem to always find our opponents to be at the best of their game or thereabouts. How many times have our opponents had a defender or goalkeeper make a mistake and gift us a goal? I can barely think of a time this was the case. The combination of our terrible (and there is no nicer word I can use) finishing and an inferior yet stubborn opponent has cost us far too many points already this season.
I'm not convinced the lack of width worked today. Grabban had a nightmare again! It can't be like he is short of confidence given that they say a striker just needs a goal, however fortunate. Well Grabban has had about 5 fortunate goals this season and has never looked like a clinical finisher. I don't like to say it but I don't think he is a goalscoring striker, which is a real problem because he doesn't offer much else. Jerome was desperately unlucky not to score but he wasn't much better than Grabban. I hate having 2 strikers in this scenaro; if they don't get involved anywhere else on the pitch then the only reason they should be picked is because they are banging in the goals. Neither is despite ample chances.
There are a few positives. We managed to go an entire game without conceding a soft goal and Gary O'Neil actually looked by far our best player when he came on. I guess with nobody else producing much excitement he has to get a go next game.
With our squad we must consider anything less than a play-off place a total failure and really we should be winning the league. But we do everything right up to the point where it comes to putting the ball the net and I don't have a solution. I hope Adams does...
