Its a good draw in the sense that if / when we do get beat it isnt really a shock and wont dampen our season. If we get knocked out by a non-league / div 1 or 2 team then it's embarrassing. If we win it's a shrug of the shoulders. It's also local, travel time wont shag the players out and our stiffs should at least put up a fight and put themselves in the shop window for Jan. We cant lose really so it is a very good draw.
I'd quite like to go to Wembley again, so we should be aiming to win this. We have a decent enough 2nd string to see off Boro and maybe if we make some January signings they can play there. This whole 'let's get out of it sharpish' thing is bollocks. It's not a distraction, it's a trophy that we as one of the top 20 teams in the country should be aiming to win. If we get to the final we could be 90 minutes from Europe. Tell me that's not an incentive?
Reserves for this game, if for no other reason than the fact it's going to be our 4th game in the space of about 9 days.
Totally agree. Is this "its only the Cup, lets play the reserves and concentrate on the League" nonsense going to go on forever. We had enough strength in depth to nearly knock Tottenham out of the LC on their own turf and get into the last eight against West Ham. Lets give it our best shot while including some of those like Faye, Harper, Chessie, Meyler, Gedo, Quinn, Boyd, and Prossie who haven't played much. Boro are poor and obviously far inferior to Spurs.
I was never really bothered about the Cup whilst we were in the Championship, but I think as a Premier League Club, a Cup should always be an aim no matter the circumstances. I remember back in 2009 when we were 90 minutes away from a Wembley semi-final but lost 2-1 (to an offside goal) against Arsenal at the Emirates. I love Cup runs, and historically, we never have them...
