I was there about 18 months ago-ish. I think a lot of the people in Hong Kong would agree with you about it being better when it was British! That was the vibe I got from chatting to the locals anyway.

It’s definitely an interesting place, very busy, organised chaos I think I’d call it.

It was worth visiting and I’d probably stop there again on a layover on my way somewhere else but I wouldn’t specifically plan to go there again.

Everyone I spoke to before going talked it up massively which is why I’d call it overrated. It was good, but not in my top list of places to go.

Sydney would be top of my list of places to live if I was to leave London. Amazing work life balance that you just don’t see in the UK.

Melbourne is nice too, but I preferred Sydney.

There’s great places all along the east coast tbh.

On my next visit I’m hoping to see Western Australia as I’ve heard really good things about the reefs. Supposed to be incredible and less busy than the east coast where everyone obviously flocks to the barrier reef.

I’d like to visit both Costa Rica and Belize - have heard really good things about both.

There’s a massive difference between beautiful places on Earth that you may have visited and places where you’d actually want to live full time.

I’d always want to keep a bolt hole here, and therefore wouldn’t want to be more than a few hours travelling away.

The Cities in Aus are all great, Brisbane is another with a really good lifestyle and atmosphere to it. When I went i wasn't a fan if surfers and turned back there, having gone up the east coast from Sydney, went straight down to Melbourne from there.

Always regret not going further north.

I sometimes regret not staying completely tbf, I think it would have be a great place to live. Sydney would have been the choice.

New Zealand is absolutely stunning. And they’ve got an awesome PM - they’ve gotta be up there for best country.

I’ve been a couple times, but on my last visit I started in Cairns, drove further up north first and then all the way down the coast to Sydney (I loved all the surfer towns along the way!) then flew over to Melbourne to watch the Grand Prix.

Absolutely love everywhere I’ve been in Australia. I thought about staying when I was there as well tbh. I may still at some point move out there, I think it’s a much better place to bring kids up than the UK.

Funny how people see things differently, I hated Aus. Thought it was full of complete ****s, basically a hotter England. The birds were in general much fitter though

I can’t ever see myself travelling for 27 hours or however long it takes to go to Australia. It holds no attraction for me at all, primarily because Aussies tend to be arrogant dopes. Quite fancy NZ though.

A mate of mine I grew up with emigrated there (NZ) with his family when i was 17. Me him and another mate all grew up together so me and the other mate said we'd go over and visit him when we finished school/saved some money. Thought may as well do Aus and Thailand and proper gap yaah it up while we were doing it.

Probably went too young as all I did was get ****ed up for 8 months in various different locations around those 3 countries, saying that I don't think I'd do too much different if I were to go tomorrow and do it again

The flight was a ****, think it was something like 12/13 hours to Singapore, 1 hour wait, 8 hours to Melbourne, 3 hour wait which got extended to 7, 4 hour flight to Aukland

Costa Rica is paradise mate. One of the most diverse biosphere's in the world and about 1/4 of the county is protected national parks. Think..eating fresh Papaya for breakfast on a Bamboo veranda with the sound of the jungle in the background, Parrots flying overhead and Monkeys swinging from the trees.

to be honest its similar to what has happened with London although London still has a lot of independent shops. Rents are getting high and a lot of the old indepedent shops are driven out by the big chains, similar to how you get an eat, starbucks, costa, pret, maccy ds everywhere. Not just that, it's even more over populated, more busy and more busy.
