oh wow, that place looks bonkers.

Unfortunately, cause i wanted to also do death valley and yosemite, i did a big circle and only joined the pacific highway around santa maria (2/3s of the way down to LA) as we'd done LA on a previous trip and didn't past this place.

I think all the different hills, mountains and large roads and sun just made it a great drive. Maybe it's just being on holiday and taking your time and not necessarily rushing

Bonkers is certainly the word to describe Solvang, it's like where the fook did this weird place appear from haha. I probably wouldn't mind going back to San Francisco/Cali, out of all the states I've visted in the US, don't know if I will ever get round to it again. Although wouldn't do an internal back to SFO again, I didn't fit the fog into the schedule, and only met my joining flight with seconds remaining before the gate closed.

 

The name of the place is Solvang, google it. It's a Danish Town/Village in California as you go South Coast bound to LA.

Ha yeah that's an odd place. Right slap bang in the Wine region too. Carmel-by-sea is a wonderful place though, nice little village feel, great surf, hot women and right in the foothills of Big Sur. What's not to like ?

Out of the countries I've been to, if I had to chose one that I'd like to live in it would be Costa Rica. That place is ****ing chilled personified. Lush rainforest, great beaches, amazing wildlife, really friendly locals, superb seafood, fresh mangos and papaya to pick like blackberries, it's a proper tropical paradise.

Costa Rica doesn't have an army, they don't pick fights with their neighbours like some central and south american countries. They also have one of the most sustainable economies in the world and life expectancy there is higher than in the US. They are doing a lot of things right.

If I had the funds I would love to do a full tour of all the USA states, and steer clear of the major cities

Honestly don't know why people knock it so much . Yes it could be better , but where couldn't and some of the scenery Dorset coast line etc are IMHO simply stunning . Just look at some of the Photos Piskie takes .
Forests , hills , parts of Yorkshire , the list , if you care to , look is endless
