I really enjoyed the game, not just because we won (although that helps), but in general it was a good performance.
I was worried when I heared McChrystal was missing via twitter and obviously McDonald was missing as not playing against parent side. I was thinking oh no not Virgo! Few of us in the bar was thinking the worse and then the team sheet appeared (via twitter) and seen no Virgo. Was quite a big cheer by us
. We presumed Paterson was selected at CB replacing McChrystal. We headed to the ground and found our place 15 mins before kick off and already couldnt feel my feet due to how cold it was! The players then came out just before kick off lead out by Lewis Haldane which was a nice touch as he played for both sides. As the team then lined up before kick off it then became evident that Woodards was moved from CM to CB. Definately thought this was teh better option for the defence but worried what that would do to our midfield. I mentioned before kick off that the crowd looked small and could do with an early goal and thats what we got. I thought we didnt sit back but kept to our game and managed to get a 2nd. Dont know how Brunt failed to get his 3rd which looked a simple chance. In my eyes we deserved the points, we looked very string at the back and attacked well in numbers and took our chances. We did the basics very well which resulted to the 3 points being won by the Gas.
Mildenhall gives me so much confidence. He commands his box really well and always talks to his defence keeping up their concentration. He must be signed.
Woodards fitted in easily at CB like he been there all season. The whole back 4 defended well and supported each other.
I thought tonight this was Norburns best game in ages if not then his best game for us so far. 2 assists from corners and passed the ball around well. Thought O'Toole had a quietish game by his standards. Paterson did well and impressed. I been saying thing we should let him go in the summer but if his performances can be like tonight then well worth keeping hold of. Harrison had a great 1st half. He beat his man more often than not. Could have scored If he can keep that level up then we will soon see him move up the leagues. However 2nd half was much more quieter.
Brunt ran and ran and ran. Think he has been a great signing for us by Ward and he could be the next Richard Walker for us next season. Richards got back and supported the smith well and did a lot of leg work.
Overall it was to me a great team performance and some great individual performances.
Was great to see Lockyer get some minutes as i havent seen him play yet. Good to see harding get some game time too and I thought Hitchcock did ok.
Last 3 home games we have beaten Burton, Exeter and now Port Vale - all who were top 7 when we played, Burton was 3rd and Vale was 2nd, and we have taken the full 9 points, scoring 7 and conceeding 0. Thats a great stat.
Enjoyed the songs... "pickles is a gashead, pickles is a gashead, la la la la, la la la la" and "we got our stadium, we got our stadium, we got our stadium, we got our stadium".
So then what a great day, 3 points, against a top 3 side, clean sheet, moved up the table, 11 point clear of relegation and 12 points behind play off....... oh and City dropped to bottom
