Many congratulations on your finish!!! It's a great feeling crossing the line at the end isn't it.
Every run I have down I have always seen the same as you where some runners are sitting to the side in sort of distress.
I have winged many things in my life but running these type of races I just can't do that so I have had to put the hours of training in.
I think the old saying of "no fear of steady men apply"....just respect the run and get round the best your body can do.
Seems as though you have caught the bug by already thinking about another run.
Not long before you do that marathon mate....lol!!
Once again great job!!

Cheers pal, I was very happy when it was over! Glad I’ve done it though, worth the pain the next day for an experience I’ll never forget, maybe the marathon one day, I’ve always fancied the idea of doing an Ironman...

Yes definitely need to respect any race, only started running again about 8 weeks ago, remember struggling to finish a 5km after almost a whole year away from it all, thought fitness from other sports and swimming would make it easier, nope!

Thanks for all the advice.

Hats off for running at that age, means you’ve taken care of yourself, I’m only 26 and my knees have already been shot, took much sports when I was younger without any proper warm ups and downs have really come back to bite me in the arse, only the last year I’ve taken things a bit more seriously and it seems to be helping.

Most of my probs have been soft tissue so I guess I'm lucky

Have a look at https://www.trailoutlaws.com, run by a mate of mine and based in Washington. They organize marathon, 1/2 and a 45 miler mostly of road as well as competing in ultras up to 100 miles and beyond. Also dark skies runs in Kielder and Scotland. There's still entries for thw Wooler 1/2 on 10th November

Did it from 82-87 and loved it. Only stopped doing it when I moved to Scotland in 88.

Best time was 1hr 44min which was when I was my fittest. My 1st time was 2hr 10min.

Best advice - Elastoplasts over the nipples, and plenty of Vaseline up the crack of yer ar$e and insides of your legs.

Good Luck - Enjoy the experience.

Yup cover those nipples, first time I ran London marathon I look like I’d been shot in the chest twice and shower after.......holy hell!!!

Are you still talking about running or did moving to Scotland turn you straight?
