Sorry LD I cannot go along with you re Clattenburg.......although I would agree that perhaps he is not as good as he thinks he is. To say a referee is particularly biased towards or against any football club is total nonsense. In my view it shows a total lack of understanding as to what refereeing is all about. Is it my imagination or does there appear to be more "fouls" in today's game in comparison to the games played up to maybe the early 70s? To pick up on LD's point about having to almost commit GBH to get a free kick while he is obviously exaggerating, the game was a lot more physical in some ways. You had your hard men in mid field but they were not dirty players they would rarely make the type of two footed tackle seen today. All this pulling and shoving in the box the pretend leap with your hands on the opposing players shoulders, your arms wrapped around players back and front. The fending off of players with out stretched hands, you would not have got away with any of those things. However good old fashioned shoulder to shoulder charges you would have done, the saying of putting goalkeeper and ball in the net was not borne out of nothing!! (These days you only have to look at them to cause a foul!) Sliding tackle single footed was ok, as was a crunching tackle. You did not get the chance of changing players over if they took a knock either! The injury's that players get these days and the time of recovery is quite astonishing. Players seemed to have a lot more respect for referee's in those days perhaps although the lines man also seemed to play a bigger part in the game. They would be allowed to run the line and it was for them to say who's throw it was not the ref's (although as always it was the ref's final decision) In my early days of playing I swear the linesman used to run the whole line? Anyway getting back to the OP point.........No ref is particularly biased there are some that are clearly better than others.......On that particular point.....I would also add that some maybe homers.........but that is another debate........
Can't argue with that Fran........I think they purposly keep them away from us as we just might take advantage.....
But how often is it, that one referee will take charge of both home and away fixtures between the same two sides in the same season, coincidence or what?
All referees try to be unbiased and fair. I played at a reasonable standard and had more good friendly chats with referees at the end of my footballing career than I ever did during it and the most honest talks I had with some very good refs were about dodgy decisions. Most the referees admitted to giving more than just the benefit of doubt to teams if the opposition had continually given them stick during the game. It certainly helped me when I managed as I would always end my team talks with “and we never give the ref grief “
Isn't that the way they are allocated these days, home and away in domestic fixtures? Unless the match clashes with some other fixture, I E the FA cup, league cup, or European leagues. I am sure the duel refereeing happens quite a lot.
Well if it is Beddy, this is the first time this season that it´s happened to us, and I have to say he hasn´t done us an awful lot of favours lately, so he definitely owes us one (or three), which probably means we´ll get nowt.
There you go, ****ing Clottenburg was a joke yesterday as I said he was. Typical jobsworth "I know better performance". Just wanted to be the star "look at me, I've seen something that nobody else can see (even my lino stood 8 yards away). Aren't I clever". Nobody in the ground thought it was a peno and you could tell from the reaction of our players what a joke it was. Don't forget these are a bunch of players with zero sending offs and hardly any bookings this season, incensed by that big headed baldy tw@t's decision. luckily AB got us the justice that was deserved. Somebody needs to take these clowns to one side and tell them to stop preparing for the after dinner circuit by becoming a celebrity and get on with doing what they're paid a great deal for doing. The lino in front of us got in on the act as well, with some terrible decisions
LD........ you really do have it in for Clattenburg don't you.........I will not deny that he did not have a good game and he really did get some major ones wrong. In truth though is that any different to a large majority of the Referees we have had this season. He is no better and certainly no worse despite his mistakes yesterday..........
The penalty that he gave was never a penalty, although Luke Shaw's shirt pulling on Grant Holt earlier in the match definitely was a pen. Therefore you were in negative karma! These things even themselves out- and there'll be a time when you get a flukey pen. Only difference is I reckon you'll score it
Big fish in a small pond as we were in league one for two seasons and aguably championship......Rickie hasn't scored 31 penalty's, with refs not giving us decisions. Do believe there is a pecking order as far as refs are concerned.
