just sat watching Wellington against Aukland. Not supporting either, but it's a good game. No sick or piss in evidence (not in my living room anyway).
I've been to football, cricket and rugby. There are always idiots who have too much to drink at any event. My first love is football (turned down a ticket for England v Ireland at Twickenham a few years ago because it was Bristol City v Cardiff that day). I guess the issue for me on some of the football occasions is the undercurrent of potential violence
Respect Remote. I've just sat and watch my wife and her sister arguing for an hour. To be honest, I think I prefer that. smh - I know what you mean historically, but the undercurrent of violence is evident in every town centre on Friday and Saturday nights. I don't bother with that any more, but am more than happy that the football "problem" is fast waning, whereas the "town centre" problem is escalating. This rugby v football argument is a no win contest. There are plenty on both sides that are wedded to their chosen sport. Doesn't mean that you can't be a follower of both, but polarisation to one or the other is the usual outcome. I made my choice about 30 years ago.
Dai, how was Tenby mate, haven't been for a while...saw The Swinging Blue Jeans there in Frog Street once...they'd be old croakers now I guess. Talking about old croakers, where is the old bugger?
First 10 days was brilliant then the rain came, I think I saw the SBJ in Maerdy Hall but the old grey matter might be playing tricks. Always thought there was something wrong with the name Upper Frog Street.
The massive business rates those city centre pubs and food retailers pay will easily cover the the clean up costs. The only reason they can afford those rates is the huge bumper pay day they get from Stadium events, the most profitable of which are certainly the rugby internationals. As Turk says anyone who has travelled with almost any set of fans will struggle to take the moral high ground on drunk behaviour. Football, rugby, cricket, darts, it's doesnt matter. If people are drinking, some of them will end up behaving like dicks. Is there anyone on here who has never over done it at some point and ended up being sick in public? I avoid Cardiff city centre on international days, even if I attend the game I go straight home to Newport, because as Hilts says the city centre becomes a nightmare, but that isn't Rugby's fault. If we were brilliant at football and attracted 80k crowds to that on a Saturday afternoon, loads of drunk people would end up behaving just the same.
Morning Sparkey, hope all is well on the Porthcawl Riviera. I think the debate diverted from the Welsh news emphasis on rugby to personal preference. Don't pick up on the meda debate as I don't watch the news that often and living Cheshire, watch the Welsh news only when I remember I can get it through Sky. To be honest, I watch a lot of sport and is my default channel in the background. Even watched some of the Swans game on Thursday but it wasn't the best. The Welsh U16 were pipped 1-0 in the Victory Shield last night but only watched a bit of that. I watch most sport to be honest. My decision on sport was made at 17. When I started playing senior rugby it was a choice between playing rugby or watching football as they were both 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. No competition really. Would be less of a problem these days with all the days they play on. When is the second leg of Mrs Sparkey vs her sister. What channel is it on?
There's truce on at the moment, but I doubt it'll last. Never anything serious though - more like whose turn is it to do the ironing....
I saw the Eagles on that tour. Wembley. And the following day I flew to Calafornia. Ironic that. Good story behind the name of the tour after their acrimonious split 14 years earlier and a quote by Don Henley. Joe Walsh sang Ordinary Average Guy that night. That is one thing he definitely isn't.
Now had you won we would have had a BBCardiff special about the game. Be happy with your 5 seconds john, if we relied on aunty for coverage of our premier league campaign i doubt the rest of Wales would know Swansea are in the premier league thank god for Sky sports
