As mentioned Charlie Wright was always good value, originally played for Grimsby.Used to take out his teeth during the game.I believe he was a big mate of Waggys. Mike Summerbee, with his large nose, once ran out at Everton with a Pinocchio nose on. Tommy Docherty, hated him at Chlesea.Mally Lord told a story when Docherty was at City he was obsessed with Stuart Pearson. One day Pearson said to him nice shirt Tom,he said its yours and gave it to him there and then. Another time he told a young fullback, it could have been Bobby McNeil that he should ask Terry Neill for a wage rise.Docherty went in with him and when Neill refused him Docherty how dare you come in and treat Mr Neill with so much disrespect. Dennis Law, he came out to Oz with George Best late 80s to do talks. He said about one time playing for Scotland against England at Wembley he had gone out all night on the Friday. On the way back to the hotel at 7am in the morning he bumped into the manager at the time, name eludes me,Law had the morning paper with him and the manager said Well done Dennis, good to see you up so early!
Cantona in recent times, great player too, enough controversial incidents in his career to fill a thread like this
Forgetting Rodney Marsh. When playing for England, when at Man City.Alf Ramsey was wary of him and told him before the game that if he did not perform he would pull him off at half time! Rodney replied Geez Alf all we get at Man City at half time is cup of tea and orange. Never played for England again!
... the "3 red cards" for Aberdeen ... getting booked at Stoke whilst warming up ... giving himself a wedgie in front of the supporters during a break in play at Cardiff
Here's a bit more about Big Billy. âNobody would deny that he was seriously hard. He once apparently offered out the entire Crystal Palace side in the players' lounge at Hull. When he was at Oxford, he was rumoured to be supplementing his weekly pay, and winding down by means of bare-knuckle fighting with the local gypsies. Neil Ruddock said that, when Billy whispered sweet promises in his ear mid-match, 'I used to start shaking.' Vinnie Jones, a colleague at Sheffield United, recalls in his autobiography how Billy (right) nipped an escalating rumble with a phalanx of Sheffield Wednesday fans in the bud by knocking out stone cold the opposition ringleader with 'one of the best right-handers I have ever seen - inside or outside a ring'. During that spell at Sheffield United, he was sent out to roam the green with the explicit instructions from his manager, Dave Bassett: 'Go and cause some bollocks, Billy.' He so rarely disappointed.â From; http://beerfootyandbirds.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html AND:
Charlie Williams Doncaster rovers center back, He played with smile on his face all the time, he stood and argued with the crowd and got up to some lovable antics during the game. He became a very popular performer on tv's The Comedians. He was black and cracked jokes on tv which would have him imprisoned as a racist in todays society, but there wasn't an ounce of animosity in him. Great footballer, great Bloke and a great comic.
