So true, these are slightly worrying times for us now. It was bad enough having all the speculation about Paul Lambert but with this thrown on top has been a bit of a shock to most! Maybe our club is the architect of it's downfall as we have a very low wage cap in place (I believe it is just £15,000 a week). Money that you and me could only dream of but possibly the lowest in the Premier League. We need to have very good players to survive and those players want better money. Agreed it sucks but that is what PL football has become and no wonder that so many teams get in to financial trouble just to try and stay in the top flight.
Exactly Thai. Hard to stay financially responsible when the pressure is placed on you to keep giving more and more money to players. So then you either accept putting the club in a financial hole, or instead to be in a battle against relegation. After a few years, clubs end up with both scenarios like Bolton. A salary cap with bonuses for games played would keep some players at clubs longer. I know it will never happen by the way
I think ours is much higher than that, Thai. Between £20,000 and £25,000 if memory serves. If we do get lucky and land Siggurdsson that will be smashed imo. No way will Holt drop down a division, nor should he after the season he's had.
How is that sustainable for a club like yours? or is it not sustainable and the club are going out on a limb to try and compete? It is rumoured that Johny Howson might be on as much as £22,000 a week so a precedent may well have already been set, which may or may not be a factor in what is going on.
But that's the limit, Thai. No way will everyone be on that though rumour has it Graham probably is. We can sustain that through having little if any debt. Almost £46M in Prem prize money this season goes a long way if you don't owe creditors money.
norwich are doing things the right way. if the worst comes to the worst then the club as a whole has improved as a result of being in the PL. through good management and team spirit they've not just survived, they've prospered. i'd let holt go. he's 31 and been around the lower leagues for most of his career and may not be able to retire on his earnings throughout his career. i wouldnt begrudge him moving for the money for that reason...nasri choosing city's £150k over united's £120k is completely different. if you could get £4m for a 31 year old i'd take the money and run....
I tend to agree Swamp. There will be plenty of Prem takers - MON at Sunderland will be a front runner by all accounts. That said, his contribution was crucial last season to a club that conceded goals regularly. His exploits up the other end made a difference imo.
We don't, Moron. The majority of creditors agreed to be paid off at a lower rate and they were. Just like you will if your Asian masters **** off. Like I said, debt free and £46M in the bank than you very much. Explained clearly enough? Oh and we get to wear our usual colours next season. Will you?
1) doesnt make it right though does it. 2) yes we will be playing in our usual colours, thanks for your concern.
