This is about money. He's only on 16k a week.... If we can sort that out then we'll be fine. I can't see him featuring for other clubs like he has for us.
IMO I think its about not getting into the England Squad. When you score 17 goals, the only big guy who has been on form you have to wonder. Everyone knows you have to be at a big team to get into the squad - that is no offence to Norwich.
Yeah - I think we all know that. Play for NE team you won't get in the England Squad. Any other national team your fine, just not England
No, that why we could get away with inbreeding, people knew but could not prove it. It all blew up when we started swimming and had to show our webbed feet.
None taken. He would be a great signing for The Mackems, proven goal scorer. We don't want to lose him but if we have to would rather see him go to you.
Now I'm not and never have been a footballer so cant say how they think, however, if it was me I may well be thinking, From the north, now 31, on back of a great season, always wanted to go back home when finished playing, a move north now, 3 or 4 year contract and good money, settles me in preparation for when that day comes.
Makes perfect sense Syd. He would be a good signing, but the price would have to be right. Norwich, quite rightly, would be looking for a lot of money, and we'd have to be careful of the balance between age, abilty & cost. He's been excellent for 3 seasons, even beyond that I recall Shrewsbury spending 200k on him (that's equivelant to millions for them). What his value is, and his value to Norwich will differ massively, and that'll probably see him stay where he is.
In a funny sort of way it could be a good deal for both clubs.Holt clearly wants more money which you will give him.We take our chances trawling League1/2 for a replacement. It's worked before for us.Our aspiration is survival, yours something more.Reckon he would get 20 for you next season.
I think maybe 15, but the way he plays would create for Sess, McLean & Seb as well (not to mention the service the 3 would give him). I guess if we took Holt, there's a ready made and younger replacement, Jordan Rhodes. We won't move for him whilst we have Whickham, but he could make the step up, more and more are (Holt & Graham being the prime examples). I don't see anyone being against Holt, and that's unusual for us with a supposed link.
I am not for or against Holt, I really dont know that much about him, didnt watch Norwich much last season. Pros = could be cheap, 15 goals last season, tall lad, better than Heskey Cons = 1 season in the PL last season, Norwich on a high, might struggle in his 2nd season, or too much pressure on him with an "established PL club". personally I think its a risk and I would much rather go for a fox in the box type player, than a hold up/tall type.
If we did get Holt Steve, and its still a very big if, I dont think he will be our only striker or even our main target. We could well have that fox in the box and Holt
He got 15 for us and for about half those games only came on as sub for the last half hour.A better player than he has been given credit for and as a bonus for you The Geordies would hate him with his physical style. He really roughs up defenders.
Suppose I am hoping Wickham can be our Holt next season, so why do we need Holt as Wickham is 12 years younger and has lots of time on his side. We havnt really got a fox in the box type striker at all.
