i suppose it was alright for him to do it as he wore a blue shirt, same as counago eh? as for alan lee, same as crowey really. i hated him when he played for ipswich but the second he put a city shirt on he became one of us. he never let us down even if it wasn't enough to stave off relegation in the end. i'd have been happy for us to sign him permanently that summer.
I have nothing against Holt and think he is the type of character every clubs needs when it comes to workrate, commitment, leadership and never say die, give all to the cause dedication to a team. He is as talismanic for Them as Gerrard for Liverpool or Rooney for Man Utd. We criticise players all too easily for not caring enough and thinking only about the cash and lifestyle but others deserve praise for what they do. Whilst growing up my favourite player for Town was Richard Naylor. Not on footballing ability but because you knew he would never give less than 100% commitment once on the pitch. You knew he would fight, annoy and hustle anybody in his way. That sort of attitude has been missing from town for several seasons now and I think it is a quality that we need back. But with Holt, Gerrard and Rooney (at different levels of the spectrum) they have an ability to go with the passion. Its not just headlessness (for that we had Norris and you wouldnt put him in the same category or even classify him as a footballer!) but its the ability to be places and know what your doing but also lift their team mates He may go down easily but it would be hypocritical if it was a reason for me to hate him. Its part of the modern game and I cant call him a cheat. He may make the most of opportunities but I dont think he falls over his feet or fresh air. Most Town fans hate him due to the derby match. For me we shot ourselves in the foot on that decision. We had time to take control of the situation and didnt. He went down easily but it wasnt a dive and we should have never allowed him to get anywhere near the ball to begin with. Other than that moment, his positioning and workrate was high and his touch was good.
It's a mistake to rate players or managers according to their team.Neil Warnock has been one of the biggest naysayers when it comes to Norwich but I rate him as a manager, his record speaks for itself.I supported Norwich throughout the 70's but there wasn't any point in arguing that they were the better East Anglian team.ipswich had a wealth of class players.
