Going onto the Rangers board and mentioning tax may prove to be a fatal error of judgement.

Not singling you out (and indeed include myself) but it's getting to the stage where Mick could draw up a list of feuds and hire a virtual mediator to sort it all out. i nominate Kim and Monaco - and just to show it is not sectarian hash could help out too!

    Can job losses be avoided?

The owner of the Grangemouth petrochemicals plant says it could reverse Wednesday's decision to close it if "substantive" talks today yield union concessions.

Sources at Ineos were speaking to Sky News ahead of a meeting with Unite which began at 8am but they insisted that any agreement on re-opening the chemical side of the operation at the peace talks would have to be rubber-stamped by a full meeting of Ineos shareholders.

The Unite union has confirmed it will now "embrace" a survival plan at Grangemouth in an effort to reverse a decision by the owner to close its petrochemicals plant.

The move was announced following talks between union officials and management at Ineos which could potentially also lead to fuel production resuming at the company's oil refinery after a shutdown of more than a week.

Unite's general secretary Len McCluskey said shop stewards had decided to accept the company's survival plan "warts and all" in the wake of the closure decision.

That included a pay freeze, ending of a final salary pension scheme and other changes to terms and conditions which had initially been rejected by staff in a union vote.

Mr McCluskey said: "We are not going to let this plant close.

    They'll start back on Monday.

When a Company announces that it's to call in Liquidators, you immediately cut your losses and lay people off.

Note, laying someone off and paying someone off are two different concepts.

We'll see how many of them are rehired. You willing to bet on it being all 2000?

The 2,000 were sub-contractors and not directly employed. If the 2,000 are not re-hired then their parent companies must not need them. The fact that they were "Laid" off tells me that they'll start again on Monday, otherwise they'd have been "Paid" off.

One of the very few things that Thatcher did right was reign in the Unions.

So, in case I missed something, the general gist of what happened was...

Accept these terms or we'll shut doon the plant.
    Naw.
Ok. We're shutting doon the plant.
    We accept the terms.

Hooray! The plant has been saved!
