Didn't the BBC stick Willie Carson on a rollercoaster one year to compare it to the undulations of Epsom? Some of the shots in the GN advert were digitally done, but some of the jumping stunts, particularly jumping the cars, were done by stunt horses and riders. Whatever your thoughts, it has done exactly what an advert is designed to do - it's got you talking about it!
Im sure that wont be the only ad for the GN shown. I mean how can they not play on last years race and the finish. If ever you had a race to show it at its best it was last year...!!! On the ad, i agree with some of the posters views. Its not really an advert for the established race goers, with shots of the horses jumping, running, close ups of the fences etc... Its more of a ad to show the once a year punter, the youth, the Hollyoaks clan what there are missing. Using the houses and parks etc trying to show its a sport for all types, no matter where you are... Greenhouse bit isnt needed...!!! But i think that they have missed a trick, and they do every year... Cheltenham is known for its 4 day Festival... Ascot for its week of fashion and High class racing... Whats Aintree known for... One race and its the Grand National. The race that everyone watches, but nowt of the other races on the cards...!!! It is a festival, and a good one at that, having been a fair few times myself. But i do feel that they should sell the other race days as well. Yes we have the GN, like we have the Gold Cup, but we also have many more top races on show... Thursday has 4 grade 1 races... The Aintree Hurdle... Morley Street being one of my old time favs. Plus we have Oscar Whisky maybe going for a 3rd win... Friday has 2 grade 1 races... The Melling Chase being another one of my favs... Saturday has 2 grade 1 races... Liverpool Hurdle which Big Bucks has won for the past 4 years... So the whole Aintree festival is centered around 1 race out of 21 run and if they tried to upgrade the whole 3 days to a big festival it wouldn't draw so much attention to the GN itself. Dont get me wrong its probably the first race we can all remember from our childhood, as it is true, everybody watches the race from great grandparents to little children. But by only saying that its good for one race seems to take away what it really is, 3 days of good racing... Maybe there will be more adverts to show its a good festival and not just a bespoke one off race...
Fully agree about the Aintree festival red - 3 days of top class action and it is maddening that the Grand National dominates to such an extent. I paid my first visit last year and will be there on the Thursday again this year, a really decent card. We go in the Queen Mother stand, 35 quid I think it was and you're up on the 4th floor overlooking the winners post with your own bar and tote window - fecking brilliant.
totally agree Red about the other races at Aintree I mentioned in an earlier post that the first 3 winners on Grand National Day last year were SIMONSIG SPRINTER SACRE OSCAR WHISKY Yet all anyone bothers about on the day is the Grand National! Madness
