Own it buddy. It could be worse!! You could be a Mackem! Horrible I know. But worse than that, you could be Chippy! Uurghh!! A fate worse than death itself!
What have you got for it, collcicine (or however it’s spelt?) You take that when you’ve got it, then Allipurinol to keep it at bay. They won’t prescribe it unless you’ve had gout a few times. I’ve had no bother for about five years, thank the Lord. Impossible to believe how much a toe can hurt. If you chopped the ****er off, it wouldn’t hurt that much****, i'm in absolute agony.

Who?? Is this somebody you knew from school in the 1800s?
You must log in or register to see media
I could explain the "joke" further but I doubt whether that would help...

I just stumbled across this thread .
I had gout for years , yes alcohol is attributed to it , but look at the other things
Foods to Avoid if You Have Gout
Skip foods and drinks that are high in purines to help lower your chances of an attack.
You should stay away from these types of food:
- Beer and grain liquors (like vodka and whiskey)
- Red meat, lamb, and pork
- Organ meats, such as liver, kidneys, and glandular meats like the thymus or pancreas (you may hear them called sweetbreads)
- Seafood, especially shellfish like shrimp, lobster, mussels, anchovies, and sardines
- High-fructose products like soda and some juices, cereal, ice cream, candy, and fast food
- Don’ts
Stay away from sugary drinks like soda and fruit juice. You also may need to limit or avoid alcoholas well. Talk with your doctor to find out what’s right for you.
While a healthy diet can help control how much uric acid is in your system, you may still need medicine to prevent future attacks. Talk with your doctor about all your treatment options.
I once had it in both ankles AT THE SAME TIME .
I have never known pain like it .
Also come off the allopurinol asap , it f**ks up your stomach lining .
I was on allopurinol for the gout and omeprazole to deal with the stomach because of the damage the gout treatment was doing to my stomach .
Common side effects
The most common side effects are feeling or being sick. These can be reduced if you eat little and often and drink lots of fluids such as water or squash. If you are being sick, take small, frequent sips of water to avoid dehydration.
Serious side effects
Skin rashes
If you notice a skin rash or redness, tell a doctor straight away, as this can develop into a life-threatening skin condition called Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
Stevens-Johnson syndrome is a rare side effect of allopurinol. It causes flu-like symptoms, followed by a red or purple rash that spreads and forms blisters. The affected skin eventually dies and peels off.
It's more likely to happen in the first 8 weeks of taking allopurinol, or when the dose is increased too quickly. It can also happen if allopurinol is stopped suddenly for a few days and then restarted at the same dose as before. It's better to reduce the dose and then increase it slowly.
It's also best to not start taking allopurinol within 2 weeks of a viral infection, vaccination, or rash caused by something else.
Other serious side effects
It's unusual to have serious side effects after taking allopurinol. Tell a doctor straight away if you:Serious allergic reaction
- get yellow skin or the whites of your eyes go yellow – these can be signs of a liver problem
- get a high temperature, sore throat and swollen glands or feel generally unwell – this could mean there are problems with your white blood cells
- have bruising for no obvious reason or bleeding gums (which takes a long time to stop) when brushing your teeth
- are unusually thirsty, going to the toilet to pee a lot, unusually tired, losing weight without trying, blurred vision – these could be signs of diabetes
In rare cases, it's possible to have a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to allopurinol.
Anyway , I will shut up now !
Hmm, I guess you had to be there.
And by "there" I mean the 1960s.

See what I mean. It's becoming more like Mumsnet.

Sorry, I was just joking. Nothing serious.Sorry ?
I was just posting about my personal experience having suffered with gout , and that alcohol is in no way the only thing that can cause it .
Sorry, I was just joking. Nothing serious.

It was bordering on unbearable overnight and this morning, felt like i'd shattered every bone in my foot.
The ibuprofen is keeping it at bay for now, but it is still very stiff and tender.
