But we are only allowed 2 loans from the PL, which was a small part of our problem last season, Welbeck and Neddum got injured, and as we had used our quota, we couldnt get anyone else in. Max for me is 1 from the PL but i would prefer 0, and 2 from abroad, but the ones from abroad should be like elmo, see what they are like with a buy clause at the end of it.
I've said it before we've had since January to scour the world for a striker, that's what our scouts are paid to do right? There can't really be any excuses of not bringing a striker in, even "we tried to get our man and we just couldn't get it over the line " Wouldn't wash for me because we should have a contingency or 2. I think wickham had opened the door to thestyle of striker we bring in, it could be any. id push for defore but wouldn't go over 8m. he's a proven scorer at prem level and I think he'd shine here. if they couldn't pull it off id expect a back up option from a decent leqgue in europe.
Got to get another striker in simple as that, if not we could have real problems in IMO! Still recon the club have an ace up their sleeves though, maybe 2!
NEED ANOTHER and not a loanee. Im a Brucie backer but this will finish him if we don't get a proven striker
SNQ gave a strong hint in a TV interview last season. If you remember, he mentioned the fact that Stoke ****y have 6 strikers and that we should be looking to have the same sort of cover. If Steve Bruce is going to loan out Noble and Lynch, then we will require two more strikers, one of which will be a loan to cover the injured Campbell. When we signed Connor Wickham I remember reading some posts from the Ipswich fans stating that CW played out on the left wing for them and did really well. Could this be his position when the season starts? Mig O'Shea.......Brown......Bramble......Bardo Larsson......Gardner......Vaughan......Wickham Sess Gyan
Its good that we have the option with him don't know if wed utilize him on the left in a flat 4-4-2 though. Maybe Larsson-----catts------gardner ....sessegnon..........................wickham ............................gyan......................... More of a 4-3-3. If its not working you could drop to.a 4-4-2 with sess going left or as you say wickham.
Well, I disagree entirely with the OP. If you check out most teams...even those at the top, most of them only carry 4 strikers. At Sunderland, we have Gyan, Sessegnon, Campbell, Ji, and Wickham. With our substantial depth in midfield, I'm more than happy to start the season with what we've got!
might finally see someone from midfield score a goal with that line-up. i reckon we sign bendtner on loan, and ask ferguson if we can have welbeck in a month or so, if he says yes, send bendtner back to arsenal. in all seriousness, i think we will see one big signing from bruce, and one other smaller deal, possibly a loan, and the two players coming in will be a left winger and a striker, though i couldn't guess which way round they will be. i think bruce was dead keen on he who shall not be named, but it's dragged on too long and with other teams starting to do business, he's been priced out. one more striker in, and then he has five first teamers, (if you include sessegnon, and then campbell knocking about the physio's room as well), that should be ample cover, with noble and lynch out on loan but with recall clauses, just in case, because it's still us. you know i read the other day that we had 2000 minutes worth of injured players last season? the second worst had about 1500. say what you like about bruce, but to haul us up to tenth with that statistic does say summat.
I dont understand what the fuss is about as its still only July 11th and we have still got about 6 weeks to go until the window shuts. I honestly can see 3 more signing in that space (a lw, cf and another forward on loan). Bruce aint daft and muft know if we are as light as we were towards the end of the season people wioll be asking serious questions.
2nd question: Do you consider the starting 11 an improvement in-terms of quality and ability compared to your best fit starting 11 before you sold Bent? If so, how much of an improvement?
I feel that our midfield was weak with virtually no goals coming from them last season..This is where we have strengthened this season. However, I wouldn't have young Wickham playing in there as he is a forward, and should be treat with kid gloves to begin with.
