I agree, and for all you think I am a cnut, I can't stand to see anyone ripped off by Cowboys or big rich organisations and I would try to help anyone in those circumstances. It's all part of my being politically left of centre.

You think I wouldn't help someone then you are sadly mistaken and I hate cowboys so I have to sort this lot out!

Ok. If you engage with them they will convince you to pay up unless you do it via a solicitors letter telling them to see you in court for whatever monetary damages they lost (£0), I am done with this and won't comment further.
Ps I never said you would or wouldn't help someone out.

    No idea mate....
Google is probably your friend though...
In the mother country there are hundreds of articles saying ignore all communications for the reason I have stated.

Just out of interest what happens when you submit an appeal by email, like I've done, and the appeal was unsuccessful - can I still get away without paying it?

Yea I've been looking for some info over here as well. Seems like the same deal as in the UK. They can only really ask for what they believe it has cost them by the car being there. And thats only if they can even prove you were the one driving the car.

I'm getting mixed messages from a few different sites though. Some say definitely don't ignore it and get into contact with them otherwise they do have the right to go to court for it (although sometimes they won't bother). And then some say ignore it because they end up getting your personal details (even though I've already got a letter in the mail) and then basically harass you personally till you pay up.

Laws changed over here last year - now it is the registered owners responsibility.
I got one last year - they kept sending me letters, I kept returning them - they gave up eventually <ok>
My mate got one on the same day, but the silly coont paid up.

So what happens now that I've emailed them and had my appeal turned down? (more or less admitting I was the driver) ignore the letter saying they're taking me to court for non payment or stump up the £85?

I have taken some photos of the site to see what you think about it personally they have 2 on the wall which was obscured by van parked in front and one next to the exit barriers which I thought was showing the daily charges in the car park! Moe says she can down load themand send you them

That is a reasonable defence in aus from what I was looking at earlier. It sounds like a very similar thing to the UK so probably could be used.

The main point is as private car parking they can't issue fines as only the government can issue fines. Its like you parking in front of my house, me deciding I don't like it so sticking a letter on the car wording it as if its a fine and expecting you to give me money.

After my appeal was dismissed I received a 'letter before county court claim' from them dated 28/7 demanding payment of £85 within the next 14 days (so by today <whistle>)
