strange decision....is this an indication that whyte doesn't trust ally? Why couldn't we have offered this role to Walter?

fair enough, still seems as though Whyte isn't prepared to let ally loose on his own?! suppose time will tell if its a good move or not
 
I don think its a trust thing.Ally will need all the help he can get and GS has the experience and most important of all is a Rangers man.As we all know that goes a long way.So far i like the changes made by Whyte.

Im looking forward to some new faces coming in any time soon.
 
I'm with Coops, Smith is a intelligent and srticulate man, knows his way round football through his work at the BBC, Football agent and at the SFA.

Plus he's a Rangers fan.

Can't really fault Whyte so far.
 
He's been brought in to do the financial side of deals, and has a good amount of experience in a lot of aspects of football administration (former agent, SFA chief) plus he will be looking to make sure Rangers get the best deal.

Bain strikes me as the kind of guy looking to make money for himself. He was always asking where the next bottle of St Tropez was coming from <ok>
 
Smith might be an articulate man by some standards, but by mine, what he articulates is a more important factor. He failed as an agent. He's unenlightening as a commentator and as a SFA blazer, he was part of the team which appointed Burley. Its all a rather unremarkable career arc. Infact if you ask anyone outside Rangers what Smith is best known for, it's a cup final penalty miss for BAHA. It's a clear sign from Whyte that he is not entirely convinced about McCoist. This demonstrates that Rangers might be in the hands of a man of sense, and not the clown masses predicting with an ounce substance whatsoever that McCoist has got what it takes to be a good manager. Winning a series of QOS against Willie Carson might be enough to give the stamp of approval for some, but not any sentient rationing human being. So Gordon The Gofer will be Ally's chaperone, and no doubt Whyte will be planning for a new manager come january if the worst case scenario happens. Billy Davies anyone? Till then your just going to have to hope that Ally is as good as Wally. Because if he's not the title will be winging it's way to Glasgows east end, and all thats happened will have to be put down to an experiment which just didn't work out. Still at least they are good gers men, and that always is important isn't it?
