I kinda agree - League Cup doesn't bother me that much. But it's becoming quite routine for us to have these ****ey results against "lesser opposition". Something, whether it's attitude/application/whatever, is not quite right on a far too regular basis.
It would be nice to win the Treble but if I had to choose one competition to get papped out of it would be the diddy cup. Going by the attendance last night - and the team selection - it seems i'm not alone.
Talking to a mate last night and he was saying pretty much the same thing. He reckoned the team (and Lennons) minds are on the Barca game next week which he was a bit annoyed about. Still, yet another easy treble missed.
I don't get the "easy treble" thing. We were getting pumped out of cups by minnows long before Rangers died
Suggesting that Celtic should win the treble without Rangers in one of those three competitions makes as much sense as suggesting that Rangers and Celtic (pre-2012) should've always met in both cup finals. It's unrealistic and it's disrespectful to other teams. On a congratulatory note, that Morton team that beat us last night cost a grand total in transfer fees of £0.00 Apparently, some of the Morton players thought at full time that there was going to be a replay and were totally unprepared for Extra Time Still more prepared than our players, clearly.
Aye fair do's to them, I personally could not really give a monkey's toss, maybe i've become used to this sort of thing now or maybe I knew that there was no possibilty of a slagging from the Teddy Bears seeing as how they suffered an even more embarrassing exit already. I was wrong it seems
Exactly, look at who has won the major competitions in Scotland. Celtic and Rangers, and with rangers no longer being any sort of threat we should be winning everything. We have about 5 years of dominance in front of us, but unless our attitude changes we wont be winning any trebles.
Both teams knocked out in the first round they played. Forfar knocked out in following round - we were beaten by a team 2nd bottom of the championship who almost certainly won't get to Hampden. I'd say the embarrassment levels are pretty much a tie.
Its a ****e cup anyway, I'm not disappointed to be out still disappointed to be beaten. Would be far happier if we only played a development side in this cup. We have a lot of games over a season now we have hunners of qualifiers to play, the development squad could use competitive games, it a no ****ing brainier.
I dont think its being out of the cup that annoys me as such, its more that we didnt try lads like Balde. If hes not ready for a start v Morton then how can he be ready for Barcelona if Stokes or Pukki get a knock at the weekend? Some of the younger lads need game time too, to see if they are ready to step it up. Ajtic, Twardzik etc. Why werent they on the bench over say stokes & Commons. If Stokes and commons were being rested why werent they left at home to rest
Playing Devil's advocate for a minute, had we gone with a team like that and been knocked out, people would be saying Lennon was at fault for not taking the competition seriously enough/not investing in good enough fringe players etc etc I just don't think we have a squad good enough to win 3 domestic trophies AND do something in Europe. More and more (whilst folk talk about the team focusing on the Barca game) I find myself focusing on the two Ajax games as a barometer of success. If we come out of those games with less than 3 points and an aggregate win, then we can forget about any European football after Christmas. For me, that's where I want Celtic to be and that is more important to me than going to Hampden four times.
Hull boss Steve Bruce claims the early rounds of the Capital One Cup have become more like friendly matches. Bruce watched his side progress to the fourth round of the competition with a low-key 1-0 win over Huddersfield. Premier League Hull made nine changes for the match at the KC Stadium while Championship side Huddersfield made 10. "There was no real cohesion, there was no real tempo to it because of what it was. It was more like a friendly than a cup tie," Bruce said. "But that's what the early rounds of the cup have turned into now. It's a shame but there you have it. It was a comfortable evening for us but it was like watching paint dry. "I think both managers have just thrown 11 players together and said 'get on with it' and that's no disrespect to the lads who were out there. "It was a drab cup tie and I think a lot of the fans that were here tonight will wish they'd stayed in and watched Coronation Street." Huddersfield counterpart Mark Robins says the weakened team he selected for the match simply reflected where the League Cup is on his list of priorities.
