You can only be head of state in the UK if you are Anglican. If William was to change his religion to Catholic he would be barred from becoming head of state.

The UK is built on bigotry.

If Wills became a catholic (unlikely) we'd change the rules.

I know how you feel, the disappointment, my application to become the next Pope was rejected, never even got a reply.

They are struggling to change the rules to allow William and co to even marry a Catholic so it is highly unlikely they would allow a Catholic on the throne.

    Monarchy is still for morons.

The only argument being advanced here is that it makes money for the country - a wholly tenuous, unproven argument....and which country does that apply to within the uk ?

Anyway, its morally wrong but it makes money for the country ? How about getting rid of the monarchy and making up the shortfall by selling chemical weapons to rogue states instead ?

How does the North Korean leader become leader is the point I was making.

And you don't see anything wrong with that? Only Catholics are barred.

The debate is over I think

To have a monarch who is non-Anglican we'd have to change the monarch's status within the Anglican church or change the church by stripping out the religion and keeping the moral code as I said earlier somewhere.

The law has been changed allowing the monarch or heir to marry a catholic.

It is unproven that they boost the economy just as it is unproven that they don't. Like I said, if you want to change the constitution, you need to come up with some credible reasons to do so. I've seen none here.

    I don't mind them either.

I like all the pomp and ceremony stuff - Charles and Di's wedding was brill!!

Willy and Cathy's, wasn't so impressed, but watched it all the same.

Phil is a hoot. Lizzy doesn't bother me.

    God bless Michael ***an.

Satirising the credulity and the servility of the English over a century ago, William Cobbett remarked that you could tell a lot about a country which referred to the Royal Mint and the National Debt.

And like I said, there is no constitution, I am not a citizen, i am a Subject. Those are two very good reasons for getting rid of Monarchy.

there is absolutely no reason why we cant have a constitutional head of state - which now seems to be the backbone of your rather fluid argument - without spending untold millions on their apparent needs, wants and hangers on.... is there ?
