Back to the thread; My father was lucky enough to see Billy Wedlock playing for City in the First Division. He rated him an exceptional player, head and shoulders above those much taller to himself. Also he played football in the right way - hard as nails but never malicious. Some 40 years later Dad and I were privileged to see John Atyeo's career from start to finish - NEVER BOOKED AND NEVER SENT OFF! The moral of this story is that Bristol City's greatest players set standards that the supporters want to remain within our club. Yes we want to win all the time but in style if we can and certainly not in a manner that is associated with the unmentionable twerp that has just joined Donny Rovers.
Excellent points Cidered. I never got to see Ateyo play but my father absolutely worshipped him and often told me that he was a complete Gentleman. The so-called stars of today are greedy embarrassments but such is the desire for clubs to succeed, that they accept the associated behaviour and turn a blind eye to it. I am sick of reading crap about Tevez, John Terry and his racist rants, Joey Barton and Steven Gerrard smacking prople in nightclubs, Marlon King etc, etc. I wiould have been deeply disturbed if we had entertained signing Diouff.
We don't need Diouf anyway but I rate him as a footballer but not as a human being. He's still got too much quality fir this league and good on Donny because they have a decent addition if Saunders can man manage him. If I signed him I'd have it in his contract that if he pees about he's gone no questions asked
