if being a little overweight helps you live longer then it looks like I am immortal. on my first work trip to India, the doc told me "don't drink the water, you will be fine with beer." so first morning at breakfast I was asked what I would like to drink. the answer "beer, please" got a lot of strange looks.
I seem to recall when someone was interviewing George Burns, the interviewer asked him "Well George, what is your secret for leading a long life ?". He thought for a few seconds, and responded as follows (in words to this effect)... "Ah, you see, I go to bed quite early, around 10 p.m. after finishing my last Havana of the day. I rise early the next day, around 6.am., walk to the newspaper shop (which is a tobacconist in in disguise), buy the New York Times and my daily cigar quota (10 big ones). I then walk briskly back to my Malibu mansion, just in time for the coffee urn to have finished doing it's job. I pour myself a large mug of the strong stuff and read the N.Y.T. obituaries. If my name doesn't appear in the list, I light up and celebrate. It's worked so far, I've been following that regimen for 80 years."
My favourite meal has, for many years, been coq-au-vin au naturel. Prepared in a litre of good claret. Modified to exclude onions, herbs, spices, carrots, celery, butter, bacon, mushrooms and chicken. Oh, no heating of course ! Jack Nicholson inspired me...
Well sod me. Just started watching today's BBC's "Breakfast" show. There's going to be a piece they introduced as: "How the early onset of dementia can be linked to heavy drinking". IMO this will be false news based on shoddy research. I'm giving it a miss. Bloody so-called experts from France of all places I'm all in favour of legislation introducing a 2-day week. that'll solve the recommended units/week issue. So long as they keep Sat & Sun and jettison the rest
Heavy drinking is bad for you? FAKE NEWS! BBC ? Pah I’ll stick with the research the HDM quoted...for more trustworthy
It just goes to show dennis...I said "False News", rather than "Fake News", which is what I couldn't recall. **** Trump. Thanks for reminding me Maybe there's something in this bloody theory. You've some catching up to do in the "early onset stakes". I'm history.
And just when you think it can't get better than this it does. When you wake up all dry mouthed and smelling of beer, have a glass of wine as a mouthwash. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-5417331/Wine-protect-teeth-destroying-oral-bacteria.html
Heavy drinkers are putting themselves at risk of dementia, according to the largest study of its kind ever conducted. Research published in the Lancet Public Health journal provides powerful evidence that people who drink enough to end up in hospital are putting themselves at serious risk of vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. It will also raise questions for moderate drinkers about the possible long-term consequences of their social habit. The Lancet. Fake news purveyors.
Spain's recommended safe limit is equivalent to 35 of our units. They have one of the longest life expectancies in the world. There isn't a country where alcohol is prohibited in the top 40 for life expectancy.
Be fair Castro, sitting in a bar facing a beach, drinking 35 units does help when the sun is shining and watching the world go by, we all know that alcohol doesn't quench your thirst but it don't stop us from trying. Cheers.
