True I suppose. But I hate this play off grand final ****e. You win the league, you are champions..... Simples. It's a bit like reaching the prem via the play offs, more glory seems to go on the team who does this than wins the league. Wrong.wrong.wrong
I agree Glory and it's even worse now with 8 teams being involved. I feel the same about the european cup, it's a joke that a team in 4th can qualify...
Irish of course I'm talking Union. Union players kick the ball for position on the field. League players kick the ball because they have to give the ball back after only 6 tackles. Big detail. Glory, probably best you don't show your ignorance. There is so much more to Union than kicking. As a thought, what do league forwards do other than roun around a bit and tackle a lot? Compare that to Union forwards who ruck, maul, line out, scrummage.... & still run around and tackle a lot! Just waiting for YNBK/YWBK/MTMB to take us back to the old bbc 606 days and chip in with a view!!!
As well as kicking the ball off the paddock there is the standing about waiting to throw it back on, the standing about waiting for the scrum to form, and the scrums themselves that even the players don't understand. If union is so superior how come they take average league players as if they are gods?
The standing around to throw it in is part of the game. Gives both sides the opportunity to compete for the ball. Apart from the cross field Garryowen (a Union invention from years ago), how often do League players actually compete for the ball? One point GH I will happily concede. The reason why League backs can make it in Union is because their ability to retain the ball in the tackle or pass out of the tackle is better than their Union equivalents. No surprise that as far as I am aware, no league forward has ever successfully made the transformation to Union. Basically they're not fit enough or big enough.
Any sport where the main objective is to horse the ball out of the ground is a waste of time ie rugby and cricket. What's the point in having a pitch if you're not supposed to have to keep the ball on it
All those public school dinners make those front rowers big lads. As a spectacle yawnion doesn't do it for me. I have tried, even went to Cardiff to watch Wales v England before the last World Cup. The weekend was fantastic but the game dull. Same goes when it's on tele. Horses for courses I guess.
Eire the main objective is to beat your opponents, and the easiest way to do that is to score 7pts for a converted try. So no idea why you think the idea is to hoof it out of the ground. Don't know that too many front row forward went to public school, but I take your point.
I gotta be honest, not a big fan of either form of rugby. It seems its less to do about skill and more to do about your size and speed, not for me I think (as well as it being so dull to watch).
