Madely was a utility player. Byram will be first choice either RB or RM, depending on your preferences. In answer to the question, would I take £500k for Peltier? Yes I think I would.

Only worth what a team is willing to pay, they might value him at £600k but there were no takers

Morning all. Looking forward to next week. Leeds hopefully dipping into loan market and Apple releasing some new products, some of which will eventually end up in my home even though I probably cant afford them. I wonder have we any chance of loaning out any of our, how shall I describe them, eh crap. I notice none of you mentioning Englands internationals, obviously no interest. My lot playing tomorrow night. I live 40 minutes away and wouldnt bother going to it even if I got a free ticket

You're right, but you're wrong, Boggers. Madeley was indeed a utility player, but unusually for utilitity players, the Don had his name down first on the teamsheet. A truly unique player!

Madely was an excellent CB, an excellent FB, could play defensive midfield or flank midfield vey competently, and on occasion was an effective centre forward.

Some utility player, in all those positions he would walk into our current team. If I was a player today (an unlikely thought) I would aspire to be like Madely

The term utility player tends to mean someone who is not good enough to make any position his own, but Madely showed it could mean something quite different

Re Sharp, the question is all about wages, he is supposedly earning around £20k/week and Saints turned down loan offers of around 75% of this. There was permanent interest too but it sounds like he did not want to take a large wage cut. It's possible that we could lower our expectation now that we are out of the transfer window, or maybe someone else will raise theirs.

Not sure if Sharp is really the answer. Maybe on a season loan, but I'd rather us sign players with the potential to make the step up to the Premiership. If Sharp was capable of that step, surely Southampton would be using him? Or they would've at least given him the chance to prove himself last season...

Anyway, we have 5 forwards already, including McCormack, strikers really aren't a priority. Signing wingers and creative midfielders who can create the opportunities for them should be deemed more important really

We might have five strikers already but theyre not all convincing. In fact Ill bet Ross scores probably more than the rest of them combined if he stays fit for the season

Kiwi, Sharpe is a player we wanted a couple of years ago and he also wanted to come to us but Bates ..... Anyway, the problem he has is that the manager who replaced Adkins wants to buy foreign forwards and as long as Lambert carries on scoring he'll get picked but he will quickly be replaced by new forwards waiting. Can't undersatand why the new manager fancies Rodrigues before Sharpe though. Adkins is at Reading and they have cash so I have a sneaky that he'll be going there before we ask him to move north again.

I'd fancy Varney to score a few if we had a few good wingers. I'm not convinced by Hunt or Smith just yet but McDermott obviously sees something in them. Poleon will keep on improving as well. I just don't think it's a vital area, not when we have glaring deficiencies elsewhere in the squad

He was loaned out to Forest last season while Adkins was still in charge though - why? It's not like Southampton were overflowing with forwards. He might be Premier League quality, I just find it odd he never got a chance, surely there has to be a reason

I think the extra pounds sharp carries is the difference between him being a prem first teamer or a fringe player

Kiwi you may be right, but wherever Billy's been he's scored a bagfull. Even last season at the saints he scored 9 goals from 14 starts, in the prem. Now that's good going and comparible to Tevez, Ba etc. He also scored 10 goals for the trees when on loan, so for someone that can't seem to get a game he has fantastic goals per game ratio.

Could it be something to do with his personal life down sarf? Didn't he get loads of praise for something about his son or wife? last season or whilst at Donny?

The mention of Madely got me reminiscing again.Madely was forced to retire from football due to a very bad mistake by Michael Robinson of Man City who is now a pundit on Sky I believe.
What happened was this Paul Hart was dishing it out to Robinsonand the next time there was anaerial battle Robinson thought he would take revengeand hit the lad batting with him by elbowing him in the face unfortunately it was Madeley causing mega damage to his eye socket.
Many years later I met Robinson on a luxury yacht in Mallorca and naturally I asked him about the incident he verified what I saw and said even today he is full remorse for his actions. Robinson was with his wife and a guest of Soueyand his wife Danielle
