Good new morning all. Maybe they have taken to heart my message to them that they are embarrassing and unprofessional by tweeting about LUFC all the time. Regarding Becchio, I half agree with what Josh is saying, but I look back at Lee Chapman and other such strikers. Absolutely phenomenal in front of goal, but so many detractors regarding their all round game. I put them both in the same bracket, and see Becchio for his real added value - putting the ball in the net. And occasionally - Middlesbrough twice for example - he scores absolute beauties. That's because he's a natural finisher. But there are only two days left of the transfer window now, and we will see if the new Board have balls or played a bad game. They wanted more money than offered so turned down offers on the basis of wanting more money. Will they panic and sell him on the last day (possibly for less) when they realise we won't get an increased offer, or will they hold firm and tell new offers to go shove themselves? I htouight Varney was excellent. His heading ability is superb, he has the same technique as Gary Speed in that regard in coming from the side and jumping at speed in front of the defender to beat him to the ball - note the head-on for McCormack at the end of the first half. His tackling was very good, as was his desire, and I thought he linked up really well with the rest. Just a flash in the pan or sight of what he can really do (like McCormack in his first season here)? Ashdown is a good keeper. See the spill the Prem keeper (was it Liverpool?) made at the weekend to gift a goal to the opposition? Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you bounce back from them that counts.
Agreed! One could also add team player and loyal servant who gave us a few good years! I would prefer him to stay but don't begrudge him moving on to do better for himself and his family.
I'm with JLA. Becchio's given us a few good years. He works for the team & always puts in a shift. We would be able to replace him if/when he leaves. But I think it's a pity that he & McCormack never really hit it off... or was that due in part to Warnock playing Ross on the left rather than up front? Heyho, Becchio's not gone yet. So maybe they'll sort things out. That said, Sunday was so positive all round that maybe we'd be better off getting £3 to £4m for Becchio & re-investing it to bring in a pacey winger and/or another forward. Alternatively, a pacey winger and a CM who can run the game for us.
